Heh...even that Roost BMX interview is probably seven or eight years old.

I started racing BMX in maybe '72 or '72, took a few years off, and got into it really heavily from probably '77 through '82. The first race I did was at one of Kevin McNeal's tracks in Riverside...that was on a Schwinn Stingray. Later races included one on a Yamaha Moto-Bike (I rode that thing into the ground...literally). During my racing days I rode for Rick's Bicycle City (Torker and Mongoose), RRS (on a Mongoose), Malcolm Smith, SE Racing (on a PK Ripper), and The Bicycle Source (Pro Neck).

My local tracks were Fontana, Corona, and Azusa (back when Rich Long was running it). Corona was the most fun, but Azusa was the toughest. The Wednesday night races there regularly featured a bunch of fast guys like Leary, McNeal, Clint Miller, etc. Making the move from novice to expert there was rather brutal.
The Roost article was pretty cool. Laying it down to guys like Greg Hill must have been sweet.

I have some old VHS tapes from the ABA Grands and I'm pretty sure that guys like Eric Rupe, Mike King, Brian Lopes and Dave Cullinan were in there. I raced beginning in the late 80's into the mid 90's. Torker and PK Ripper, there is a couple of names I haven't heard in a while.

My last race bike was a GT Auburn. What a beauty she was. Man I miss that bike and would love to find one again.

I guess my home track was Temecula but we raced a lot at Perris too and every once in a while would go to Orange BMX. Loved doing the nationals and Gold cup qualifiers but never could get out to do the Grands.

Remember Yorba LInda's track?

How about Twin Palms? We used to ride there all the time.

Who cares who owns it ?

This dude here has probably never threw a leg over a dirt bike, but he is the main honkey in the motocross media world. He's Casey Wasserman, the man of the Wasserman Media Group. They own Sportsnet (motocross.com), bought Transworld media from "Familie", owns Studio411 and is the sports agency for CR22, TP199 and many others. They actually own their websites too.

So lets embrace Brad and Vital, he's hired someone who is taking the MX seriously. Have you been to motocross.com lately. It's obvious that this Wasserman kid doesn't care who's running the show, over there.

A little known fact, the US army did several experiments in the 50's on guys riding motorcycles. The Army found only 10% could read or write, the other 90% kept banging on what they called imaginary type writers. Well I think we see how the next gereration turned out.(see above picture) ie. shit eatin grin.

The thing is, people think that the the more controversial their posts, the better it is for business around here. Like we need them to be controversial to generate page views.

While it's true that controversy generates activity, it's kind of worthless if it's nonsense, or just controversy for controversy's sake. If you really want to dazzle us with something, try some factual stuff that no one else has posted yet.
Hear dat'. I was just commenting on the speed at which it happened, not the "importance" of the clickee.

Wasn't there another interview you did that was floating around, where you had mentioned visiting an uncle in Estacada Oregon (i think) and attending the 500 MX National at Washougal in 1980 or 81?
For some reason I remember reading an interview a while back or something like that and for some reason I thought it was you (it may have been Bruhn,I don't remember).

I didn't notice RMZ819 was clipped but I will say I've often thought how he wasn't. Either way I could care less though.

More properly, I think you mean that you couldn't care less.

FastEddy, I don't think it was an interview, more likely something I'd written while at TWMX. My brother and I visited my aunt and uncle in Oregon, and my uncle took me to my first MX race ever in 1973 or 1974...a local race at Washougal. That's pretty much what sparked my interest in the sport, and it was about 30 years between that visit and my next trip back to Washougal. The cool part was that it was almost identical to what I'd remembered. Smile

Jason, Todd Huffman (more recently known for The MX Files) knows a little something about Auburn. Smile

That is some good stuff right there. I had the CR-20R from 92 and I had the CR-20RX from 94. Would love to get my hands on one.

I swear I had all of those BMX Action magazines in the 90's. So many good Pro's back then. A lot of good memories that's for sure. Tim Fuzzy Hall, Pistol Pete, Ellis, Robinson, etc, etc.

And the bikes. Haro, Elf, Auburn, Hyper....

I am pretty sure Danny Nelson lives up here by me too.

This has, somewhat surprisingly, been a very entertaining and informative thread.

I always assumed that GuyB owned vitalmx lock stock and barrel but never thought much about it. Don't worry Gibby I won't think any less of you now that I know Wink

Thank you, pdubfiddy, for your short but entertaining time on vitalmx. Gibby that was funny I'll give you that. Laughing

pdubfiddy, no time like the present to start your own forum that you mentioned chump...

Nope, never did that one. To be perfectly honest, I was never a huge fan of indoor races with wooden jumps on concrete.

Ha! Actually, VitalBMX.com, Vital MX.com, and VitalSkate.com all launched at the same time. We later closed up Skate, and launched VitalMTB.com to replace it.

Dave, for my era? It'd have to be Vital Vintage BMX. Wink
