On August 6, 2025, President Donald Trump announced that Apple will increase its U.S. investment commitment by $100 billion, bringing the total to $600 billion over the next four years.
Apple CEO Tim Cook joined Trump at the White House for the announcement, which includes expanding domestic manufacturing and supply chain operations.
As part of the expanded commitment, Apple plans to build a smart glass manufacturing line in Kentucky, a server manufacturing facility in Houston, and a manufacturing academy in Detroit.
Corning scored big, as did other US manufacturers. Tim Cook and other execs realize what Trump says is often different from what he does. His demand that smart phones be built in the US was leverage, not an enforceable act. Apple committed and additional $100B in exchange for tariff relief. Which is the end game Trump wanted.
Just add it to the other countries, and businesses moving here, or moving back.
Now of we could just jumpstart our education system to create skilled people to fill the gaps in our tech, and trades, needed to fill the jobs being created as a result.
Skill has nothing to do with the work force in this country . I've been a tool maker for the entire 30 years ive been out of high school. I can't believe the number of kids and adults who have zero work ethic. Its an absolute shame. People thinking that just because they punched in they should get paid or a raise just because they've stuck around another year. Its out of control.

Lost count of how many I've hired who say they want the job, but find out that being there all day, 4-5 days a week, and getting dirty, sweaty, spending all day breathing dust while feeding the tablesaw, demo'ing moldy old kitchen's, bathroom's, etc... is what you do.
The pretty finished product doesn't build itself in 30min, like the TV shows would have you believe.
And yeah, the tools you'll need in the field cost money. Your money.

I stand behind trades being taught in high schools, and tech schools being available. I'm sure its been said about every previous generation below me, but this feels wildly different.

Honest question, do we expect the prices of phones to go up, down or stay the same once this is in place?
I'm not against manufacturing in America at all, but it seems to me that once they are paying American Wages, benefits, additional HR costs that they don't have in 3rd world countries etc. etc. that the price of phones is likely to go up right?
100 percent on teaching trades in schools. There has to still be some good workers available.
As always, the consumer holds all the power here. If you dont like the price of that new TV, laptop, smart phone, or XBOX, then dont buy it.

Phones will still be assembled overseas (as confirmed by Trump). New Apple deal w/US-based partners will incrementally increase cost which have already been factored into pricing. Apple had already budgeted $500B, and the additional $100B is spread over multiple years.
