So I just had my crank fail. I had the cdi recall done in 2022 (probably 6 months after purchase) Bike ran fine all day trail riding until the last 3 miles back to the truck on some single track the bike just popped and let go. Had no warnings signs. Thankfully I was just on some loamy trails and not at the track. I’m assuming ktm won’t do anything but do you think it is worth pursuing? Also anyone have an idea why this would fail so drastically?
Are you running a Mikuni carb if I could ask not that it probably matters. That sucks to see though. Bummer that it blew the cases apart. I've got my 22' 150SX up for sale and it runs great, never had an issue.
It's a 4 yr old bike... highly unlikely KTM will help. But since there was a known issue with the cranks (that they never acknowledged) maybe they will. How many hours on the bike and bottom end? How many hours on the current piston?
Yes stock carb. Bike ran great, has had 2 top end jobs prior to failure and every time it seemed pre mature to change as they were in tip top shape never had an issue until yesterday.

Figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. But totally understandable if they don’t just wild how catastrophic the failure was. I would’ve expected to loose a ring or chip a piston before a crank failure. Bike has around 250hrs on it with about 70 hours on the piston. Was getting ready to do the piston when this happened.
Bike was mainly 70% trial ridden, 30% moto. Especially the last 15-20 hours have just been mellow low rpm put put rides. But it is a 150 so guess I just need to be more mindful of the hours and probably just sell the bike before it hits 200hrs lol
Wow. I've been riding/racing two strokes since 1975. I've never seen a catastrophe like this. Glad you weren't injured.
