They should make the leaders wear number 1s.

or izzy, or stroupe going back to a 3 digit number like he did 2 seasons ago. what about if pastrana makes another 1 off sx race; does he not get to run # 199 that we all know. i myself, dont like this. being able to keep a certain number is good for marketing i thought?

Pastrana didn't get any points this year so he didn't get a national number (top 100)... so he can use whatever he wants.

Motocross racers love the way that their number looks on a bike. You can call it superstitious, but it's true. Numbers are a serious deal to a motorsickle racer!

Absolute step in the right direction. Need to take it a step further though. Permanent numbers for National/SX champs onlly(maybe grandfather those who have consistently performed well but not won titles -KDub etc) Everybody else gets their # based on points. Brayton perm #10 and Chisholm perm #11? WTF! Both good riders but not deserving of perm numbers IMHO.

As irrational as it may seem, numbers do seem to matter to a lot of people.

With all due respect I think you are confused. This minor rule tweak only affects about 2-3 riders. It’s not even close to bringing back the old numbering system. Take a look at the list, and read the rule change again.

And for whoever said “Brayton perm #10 and Chisholm perm #11? WTF! Both good riders but not deserving of perm numbers IMHO.”

Did they not earn their permanent numbers the same way guys like Wey, Byrne, Sellards, Ferry, Reynard, Voss, Preston, etc. earned theirs? What makes them so “non deserving” of a permanent # in your opinion? Both had great seasons that put them solidly in the top ten overall which is very hard to do, hence they earned their number!

Ferry and Preston both won championships. And Voss for that matter.

Totally agree!

It's just a number.

I know it messes up merchandising, but at least you'll know what year you bought the sh#t in.

How does Voss keep his number? I know he won something a while back but does he ever race anymore? I thought you had to earn points to keep your number?

Heath Voss earned 16 points racing SX in 2010, thats how he keeps his #13.
