First notes of Jimi at Monterey Pop always get me. Just kicking in the door with high energy, swaggar, and The Experience rippin it. Also Mitch Mitchell's drumming in this video was also responsible for an almost decade long push to make John Bonham share a slot with drummers that I wanted to sound like when I grew up lol.

Fun fact, my dad was at this show. This is that famous night when The Who smashed their instruments and then Jimi one-upped them by sacrificing his guitar. When he told me about it years ago I was like, "wow that had to be the coolest thing ever", to which he said, "kind of, it was kind of a lot. but the show that everyone was talking about the most was Otis Redding."

Some early Page, pre Yardbirds.

Kinda hard to compare musicians, not really a metric to base it off because they all pursue different aspects of the music. I always appreciated Jimmy's style: very ragged, as though his mind was working faster than his fingers. I know there's lots of guitar players on here that can attest to the feeling of a Les Paul through any big amp, it's like holding a wolf by the ears - very unforgiving in the sense that any time you let go of the strings there's crazy noise. I love the recorded stuff of course, but Page to me will always be the man wielding that fire breathing setup.

His style, the mystique he crafted, technical chops, his ear, his production knowledge, all of it really just makes him such a beast of a band member.

Last clip. This is my favorite Jimmy moment of all time and one of my favorite Zep moments. They cut it down for the movie which sucks. Bonham's slow build alongside JPJ's key playing that sets up Page's entrance, and the well thought out concepts that Page leans into. The phrasing and contained-ness of it while still keeping it funky but massive... 😚 🤌 ...it's a spicy meatball

The analogy I sometimes use with people is comparing Jimmy Page playing with Ricky Carmicheal riding.........not always picture perfect, but nobody could touch either one in their prime. RC4 won 150 races with his technique and so-called bad bike setup.

One of my favorite Page performances this clip starts about 5 minutes into a 25-minute-long song.....just awesome.

An absolute BEAST. That “leave in the dirt” ethos, the sprawling ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TONE, always plays what’s appropriate, in virtually any style, chops, feel, songwriting and production…he’s a MONSTER!

Not meant as a comparison, but since this thread has some other great guitarists in it I kinda like Mick Ronson, especially on the ‘original’ version of Madman Across the Water……

Non-moto is full of malcontents; just pay them no mind, it's who they want to be.

Here's Glen Campbell single picking "William Tell Overture". Watch this and let that sink in. He played on so many albums from so many different people, it's crazy.
