Hello. Pardon the ignorance. Nascar newbie.
I'm watching Somona live. Chastain is leading SVG by 23 seconds. He wins Stage 1.
Ads. Ads. Ads.
At the restart, SVG is on pole. Why? Chastain turns up way back. What am I missing?
Not sure, but who’s your favorite gasket manufacturer?
I know, right!! I should ask for royalties.
Oh what a great racing series that was before radial tyres, and a series of competition stifling rule books.
Real (mostly) stock bodies, tyre stagger, sliding through turns, leaning on the car on your right side, or nudging the chrome bumper of the guy in front of you.
When NASCAR started fucking with the formula…they lost me.
Stage races
Wannabe F1 pit stops…remember lug nuts?
The new cars…they seem like they’re harder to drive than the old cars.
Then there’s today’s road course race…cars “go off” worse than F1…

Was in Daytona, in prime seats between the start finish line, and pit exit (seagrave section) when Dale finally snagged his win of Bobby Labonte.
Ws regular at Bristol, Darlington, and Richmond.
But then they ruined the old Bristol track, and lost interest after they screwed Carl Edwards out of a championship, by the endless throwing of the yellow flags at the end of the 2016 homestead finale, and allowing Johnson "lucky dog" his lap back, and eventually back his ass up into a very underserving title.
Carl never drove a race after that.
And I never watched another race.
Why bother ??
Maybe Chastain stopped and SVG chose not to for track position?
I've figured out that Svg had lead more laps, maybe that is why he gets the lead back.
What's funny here is that we all get a bit annoyed when you're watching supercross and motocross commentators and they explain the most simple things for the newcomers to the sport. And here I am asking about the most basically simple aspects of racing. Bloody noobs!!!
Another question which completely baffles me is how SVG moves from trackhouse racing to JR Motorsports as well as running car 9 yesterday against Zillsch in 88 and then car 88 today? I don't know anyone swapping cars and numbers in any other sport.
Different series/divisions within NASCAR. Typically Xfinity series (one level below Cup) runs on Saturdays before the Cup race on Sunday.
So to me - that would be like ET3 swapping bikes and number with CW2 going from SX to MX. I don't get it.
Failed to correctly install the “wheel nut” on the 51?!
GO BACK TO LUG NUTS
I bet barcia was pissed off about that.
😁
Said “I quit” then walked across the pits to some Italian team…
You are correct, you’re not getting it.
Research the Camping World Truck Series, the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series, all part of NASCAR.
Cup is premier, Xfinity is #2 and Trucks are #3.
in road courses, its quite common to flip the stage, meaning you come in and pit with 2-3 to go, so you lose the stage points, but get the track position back when the rest pit under the stage end caution,
SVG flipped the stage in stage 2 as well, but has such a big lead he came back on 2nd, and still passed Larson for the stage win,
3 wins this year, it pretty epic for the Kiwi,
Humor me…
If a guy wins races in NZ, Tazy and Oz…
How the hell is that NOT considered a “Triple Crown”?! 😂
I appreciate that explanation. Now can you explain this one to me please?
Did Dale Jr take over Trackhouse? Or did SVG leave Trackhouse? Why on earth does he race against number 88 one day and in number 88 the next?
Trackhouse and Jr Motorsports seem to have an alliance that started this year, , the no 88 Jr Motorsports xfinity car is driven full time by by trackhouse signed rookie Conner Zillich, who beat SVG on Saturday, who is driving the number 9 jr Motorsports xfinity car for select road course, it was origanally annouced as 4 races, but then Daniel Suarrez replaced him at mexico city, SVG is back in the 9 xfinity car for Watkins Glen too i beleive,
Trackhouse is owned by Justin Marks,

NASCAR has made so many changes over the years to even out the competition I’ve lost track. I started watching NASCAR as a kid back in the 60’s. It was not uncommon to see drivers win by 70-80 seconds, 2nd would come by and another 35 seconds to 3rd etc.
3 cars on the lead lap at the end, 8 two laps back and on n on.
Although they were amazing times for the purist of the sport, something had to be done or in 2025 fans would have lost interest with the lack of close racing.
I miss the big names of the past but I have to say the racing is much more competitive than when I was a kid.
In the late 60’s Richard Petty won 27 races in one season. In 2024 there were 18 different winners, and I’m not sure but most likely the top race winner maybe won 5-6 races, which in modern times is impressive.
Although it’s not that thrilling to watch on TV, like any professional sport you would most likely enjoy it in person. You can appreciate the talent these drivers have, plus the sound of those engines is impressive
I have taken a lot more interest since SVG went over there. One thing I noticed for sure was the lack of multiple event winners. I put it down to the ability for numerous cars to be wrecked taking out contenders and also rans without bias either way. I mean we all know the big names over the years but maybe they won the championship with four to five wins out of the 5,692 races they seem to be involved in every year.
It was confusing when I saw him running the 88 in Mexico City. I automatically assumed it was his number. However, in an interview today, he spoke of the number 88 car in a way which dentified the car being the owner of the number not him. As for the Trackhouse situation, it's a little bit like Pro Circuit letting one of their riders run the 450 class. Kinda sorta.
SVG stopped and got tires/gas and made up a lot of time before the break, Chastain had yet to stop because they award points to the top ten.
Chastain came in to the pits giving the lead back to SVG.
All this "New way of awarding points" has turned a lot of folks away from Nascar.
Plus; way too many road course races! 3 is ok but 5-6?
The road course vs oval debate equates to the Supercross versus motocross debate from probably a generation ago. I can certainly see how the purest would rather the racing be kept on the ovals.
For mine it's all about the road courses, turning left and right. Given the disparity in some drivers' road skills versus oval skills it would be fine if it was a separate series.
Maybe the Trans am series or GT series is exactly that.
The street course in Shitcago is an abomination. Took it from the best road racing facility in the country.
No kidding. A proper race course.
