It’s not really that obvious what JE had on anyone. GM went to jail for bringing girls to JE, I don’t think that’s a half assed charge. It certainly isn’t beyond the realm of possibility - it’s actually highly probable - that she and JE ‘supplied’ young girls for rich and famous people (Prince Andrew can’t be the only one). But as regards if or how many people they blackmailed and what kinds of records they kept and whether the government now had them: What evidence do we have that rises to the level of justifying a claim to know much of anything, other than that the administration isn’t being entirely forthcoming?
The troubling thing of course is that Bondi made the statement that the evidence was sitting on her desk - a statement now contradicted. So she was lying then or now. So one thing we can know with certainty is that she’s a liar. But when was she lying and why? Lying then (when she said it was on her desk) is possible, though that would mean they’ve got no such list and that possibility seems more unlikely the more you’re already convinced that the list both exists and is known to the government. Do you see what’s happening here? You can start using your suppositions about what going on to support your suppositions about what the government is doing (or not doing) about it and why, and be completely oblivious to the the fact that you’ve just constructed a narrative to support what you take to be facts rather than just following the facts (which are aggravatingly sparse). You already think you know what happened, independently of the actual evidence because facts you construct to fill in the narrative easily become indistinguishable from facts representing actual states of affairs in the world.
To avoid of this, I’m maintaining a certain level of skepticism. It doesn’t mean I don’t think something fishy is going on. It just means I don’t think I know what exactly it is, who all is involved, or what if anything is being covering up. We’re lacking an awful lot of facts that we should have before we crucify anyone - besides Bondi since we know with certainty that she’s a liar (then if we’re consistent and crucify public officials for lying, we’re going to run out of wood for crosses very quickly). Citizens do, however, deserve transparency and honesty from their government. So yes, the Trump administration had dropped the ball badly on that front. Exactly why, however, remains to be seen.
