Watching that race on TV is what started it all for me. Haven't looked at life the same since.

45 minutes +1 on an adobe, dusty, slick track, in june, in socal x 2 motos. On that heavy sled with drum brakes and air cooling.

And you could see the exhaustion, the focus, and finally the realization that he had done it.

Marty is still, and will alway remain a hero.

I think that win is the single most iconic race is US mx history.

I remember watching this on Wide World of Sports . I was rooting for Lackey and didn't even know who Moates was at the time , but it was great seeing him win . Lackey went off the track at the end of the downhill I think while leading .

I live a few miles from where the track was . If you stood in that exact spot now all you would is tract housing and industrial units 😢
