I recently purchased a TD Vortex for my 2021 YZ450F and it seems to be running a little rough. I've tried calling TD twice, but I never get anyone on the phone who knows anything about the tuning other than "mess with the fuel clickers". They're a big company, I know I'm not gonna get Jamie on the phone so it's no biggie.

I am running Renegade MX4 fuel and I seem to be getting some bogging/popping on low-mid throttle openings. If I open the throttle too quickly, I can stall it. I am currently just using Map 1, or what TD calls the "Overall best power and torque" map. If I pop the factory ECU back in, all the popping/bogging/throttle response issues disappear.

The ECU came with the fuel clickers all on setting 4, I guess because I specified the Renegade fuel when I ordered. Can anyone recommend which direction I go - leaner or richer?

Also, my sheet shows Map 9 as the "Nicoletti Baseline Race Map". Does anyone have any insight on this maps characteristics? The guy on the phone at TD didn't have a clue.

Thanks

I've never used TD but it sounds like your bike is running Rich.

So I leaned the dials out to 3 and it got considerably worse. Richened them up to 5 and now it’s miles better. I think I’ll hang out here for a bit when I get out to ride it and see.

I’m shocked one click on the Lo/Mid/Hi can make such a difference.

Flame out when whacking the throttle generally indicates leanness.  And your improvement going to 5 seems to confirm this.  The fuel may be oxygen rich and requiring a richer setting.  Also your TPS adjustment may be off.

reset your TPS… hold the kill button and start button with the throttle closed for about 3 seconds, repeat with throttle wide open.
