It doesn't really concern me this year, as I'm over 7 and a half years removed from my last drink and don't plan on breaking that anytime soon, but I can't help thinking this could seriously effect the future of this event going forward if it becomes a regular thing.. 😒

😂
Sadly, it's been a long time since Britain was Great.
It could be a good thing! Might attract some families & young kids back

Ironic that the police called the event "lawless"...
Wonder if they are busy releasing violent criminals to make room for free speech crimes?
It's a joke now huh. A couple years ago I had a break light go out on my car. Just after the MOT. I didn't get that fucker fixed for 8 months and never had a police car behind me one single time in that 8 months. Didn't get stopped or shit. I rarely see them apart from when they're trying to catch us speeding. There is no police presence anymore.
Watching clarkson's farm has convinced me that england is europe's california.
What stupid shit will they pull out of a hat next?
Meanwhile real criminals and problems go ignored.......
I understand your sentiment but the price probably puts most off. The powers that be have obviously never witnessed an MXoN or GP in France. Now that lot are just nuts.
There is definitely too much not giving a fuck by an element of the crowds at these events, but this seems like an overreach if you ask me, the guy who died was a drug related death, and if alcohol was involved its more likely from what he and his friends took with them not bought there.
With regard to the staffer who was knocked unconscious, whatever the circumstances I hope the perpetrator was caught, arrested and charged with what he deserved, but when the crowd can take their own alcohol into at least the camping areas what difference does it make other than hitting Steve Dixon in the pocket. Unfortunately arseholes will be arseholes.
The MX ‘family’ in the UK is off the rails.
Drug taking, even at youth events is rife. Parents sat around a campfire on Saturday nights sniffing coke, absolutely shit-faced.
Delivering their kids to the start line pissed, with a beer in one hand and a spliff in the other. It’s a fucking embarrassment. These people are the dregs of society. Worst of all, because they have these drink/drug issues, very often their child is subject to mental (sometimes physical) abuse if they don’t ride well. Believe me, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve witnessed it.
The weekend of the GP is no longer primarily a sporting event- it’s an opportunity for a drugged up 36 hr weekender. Again an embarrassment.
I drink. I’m ok that people want to enjoy a beer and enjoy the racing. What I think is out of hand is the lack of control people have to stay decent.
its hardly surprising but it is a shame. The GP is full of chavs ( bogens ) that treat it like a piss up and weed fest.BTW, wtf is it when you goto a practice track it stinks of weed, what an absolute embarrassment for us Brits
i have 2 or 3 pints when i go, which is just rite, you dont need to get shitfaced to have a good time.
i would not be surprised if fox hills mxvdn goes down the dame road soon, its starting to follow suit
The VMXDN is down my end of the country. I’ve heard in the local circles about groups of guys going who aren’t old enough to remember a 1995 model being used, and they’re not particularly interested. They’re just happy they can go and camp out & take drugs all weekend without threat from the police/security.
The same venue hosts a music festival that has massive drug issues and deaths every year.
Alcohol isn't the problem.
Is that music festival for 18yrs+ ?
Or are children allowed?
It is 18+ only.
It makes a big difference that under 18s are t allowed on site during the event.
People spend all that money on going to an event only to spend the whole time on it and then can't remember any of the weekend or miss most of it passed out. Fuck that.
Any of you guys actually planning on going to the GP? I brought my ticket the other day. Was going to just do the Sunday and then talked myself into buying a Skybox weekend ticket 🙄
I'm tempted, I've not been for a couple years. But like yourself I don't drink unless the circumstances are exceptional (I'm on 2yrs sober at the moment) so the ban doesn't bother me one way or the other.
im going , its only 20 mins down the road. Its one of best tracks in the world and despite the chavs, a good spectical and i still have a good time
The 'Great' in Great Britain refers purely to geographical area, but regardless (not to get too political) I think we're done... Once again a minority of scumbags have ruined it for everyone.
Pit Row
The minority seem louder than the majority, that applies to the GP campsite and politics.
As mentioned, weed is smoked everywhere all the time from the streets to the practice tracks to the race tracks, it's become so normalised, and with that other drug use is following suit. I've even witnessed riders at the track puffing on a spliff, it's replaced normal cigarettes for some.
Normally I would be at the GP but I'd already committed to doing a big gig this weekend, it's a shame because I always enjoy it along with the group that I go with. Steve Dixon deserves all success from holding these events. Fingers crossed it works out for him.
That reminded me of this.
What they gonna call the beer tent now ? “ The Tent”? This is a preposterous outrage, lemme talk to a manager.
The Chav is disappearing, you don’t see that many anymore. They seem to have been replaced by an even more degenerate sub-culture, that of the roadman.
Funny how it’s all “damn fans ruined it” — but the council/police refused the alcohol licences because the organizers failed to get a grip on it after YEARS of issues. If they’d run it tighter, this probably wouldn’t even be a story. It’s not just fans acting like idiots — it’s poor event management too
Whilst you are right, it’s a shame it needs ‘managing’ because morons cannot manage themselves accordingly.
Could be a good thing, i cant remember the last time i camped, and when we did, i payed for the upgraded one at the far top.
People who think its out of control have never been to Ernee, or St Jean, or any 24 hour race.
i miss the isle of wight GP's that had a strip club next to the whoops,
Le Mans is the standard by which all others shall be judged. The man camped next to us when we arrived last timesaid hi, offered me a chug from his bottle of jack Daniel’s he was drinking from and that was like the Thursday before the race.
We had that at Mallory Park as well, i really didnt think it was a good idea, not going to pull families in at all.
I was away for the first one, but the second one was mint, with a SupermotoGP on as well,5 mins from my house, too.
I had my wedding reception at the Coach House there in 1991, never thought it would be a GP venue, and i think the first GP there had one of the greatest MXGP races ever, with big Ken De Dyker coming back from a first lap crash to steal the win in one of the races, on what was a decent track for racing.
No issues with banning alcohol, personally I think people need to find a way to relax and have fun without chemical intervention. Alcohol ruins more life's than any other drug.
the group of welshmen we camped next to at Isle of Wight 2005 were similar, with more options offered to share,
