Hey guys not sure if this is allowed on here but my ‘24 yz450f was stolen out of my locked shed a few nights back. I’d appreciate the community to keep a lookout for it. The bike had 9 hours on it and some parts that make it a little different from stock.  It was stolen in Cape Carteret (Eastern NC). Posted for sale on marketplace 4-5 days before it was taken so that could be a culprit. Thanks guys, I’m pretty bummed but I appreciate yall looking out.

Sorry to hear, and I hope you’re able to find the bike. I was just talking with someone in another thread of why I don’t use marketplace for this exact reason. It makes it too easy for pieces of shit.

Yeah man I’ve heard numerous stories about marketplace theft. A friend of mine has a detective buddy that says it makes it too easy Google your name and whatever state then address and it comes up just about for everyone. Pretty scary.

Man, really sorry to hear that. Hope the scum ran out of gas and stashed it in the woods somewhere.

Out of curiosity, how are they using FB Marketplace to track it down? I'm assuming you wouldn't post your address, and I'm assuming you brought it to a neutral meeting spot if someone wanted to look at it in person? It would be good to know so I or another member can try to avoid a similar situation.

I hope you find the bike and they never find the thief's body.

Jokes on them the wash cover is in it so I hope they tried to ride it. But apparently they’re seeing your name on Facebook under your seller profile and just doing a simple google search of “your name, your state” then typing address after that. Try it it’s pretty spooky. If you’re selling bikes on marketplace I’d recommend changing your name on Facebook.

I plan to make a whole new profile when it comes to selling a bike again. I suggest everyone do the same. Even if you change your display name, your old name will still show up in the site address when viewing from a browser. May be a way to change that too? Haven't looked that far into it.

Wow, I did not realize the first Google result would be my full current address. I didn't even have to click on the link to see it, shows it front and center in the search results page. Absolutely fucked.

Thanks for the info, really sorry you're dealing with this. Hopefully they're too dumb to figure out why it won't start and they ditch it somewhere.

Sorry to hear. Had one stolen years ago (the YZ in my pic).  Had insurance, but the violation of my property/family safety was the real punch in the gut part for me. Get insurance and an air tag for next time.

You wouldn't believe it, about 9 months after mine was stolen, I actually had some family pull up next to me at Budds Creek.  The teenage kid was riding my bike. Unreal chances. They had bought it from the group I had found out that stole itI knew they didn't steal it. . Their faces clearly told me they knew it was stolen when they said they bought it for half its value at $2300. Since the bike was technically Progressive's property, i had no interested in starting something and i just laughed.

Remember the show bait car? The police would leave a vehicle in high crime area. The vehicle had hidden cameras, remote shutoff and locks. The theif would take the car and then the police would shut off the car, lock the person in and arrest them. Its not entrapment. Police can't legally entice you into committing the crime but they lawfully may provide the opportunity.

Do this for dirtbikes and anything really. Dirtbike theft pales in comparison to bicycle theft.

I know its rare, but some departments have put decent efforts in tracking down stolen dirt bikes. Seems like a low cost low effort move to nab people and the word would get out.

Terrible to hear. Sort of makes me hope one of these burglars run into a dude posted up in their garage with a pump-action and get what they deserve.

Just a heads up a whole new profile is what I would recommend. Assuming your real name is Dan Corbett then you change your Facebook to Corbett D if you login to Facebook on browser you can easily see in the address the original name on the account.

Yeah that’s for sure the move to selling stuff in the future.

It's fine, just start a GoFundMe, make some thinly veiled references to mental health, and end up with TWO bikes!

Kidding, of course. Hope you're able to get it back, though unlikely. Sounds like you are a reasonable person with a great perspective and common sense.  Best of luck to you.

Between giving everyone who views your ad a fairly precise location and the ease of access of public info, it’s the exact reason I don’t sell anything on marketplace and my social medias are locked down and blank.

I tried this, and FB will block you from using marketplace on anything other than your primary account.

Lol the whole J-Law GoFunMe literally went through my mind. I’m not sure how you could justify taking other people’s money like that. Go get a job like the rest of us.

What i mean is if someone sees the user profile Corbett D selling a pw50 they can login to Facebook on browser and search Corbett D. Once they find the profile in the address bar copy and paste and it will have the Facebook . Com / yada yada user Dan Corbett. It will show the original name on the account not the new name he switched to to follow people Corbett D. Or you can just use marketplace on the browser and click the profile address bar same thing.

Ok I see what you're saying. Must have to remove the account from the device. I know people that have an account for just marketplace.

I’ll have to try removing it from my IPhone. I tried it on my PC where I’ve never logged into any FB account and it still knew it was a secondary account somehow. I’ll have to keep playing with it.

I'm the farthest thing from a nerd or anyone in the know when it comes to this stuff but that seems very odd. I have multiple accounts because of business pages and ive never had any trouble with the issue you're having. Ive even had them on the same device.

Welcome to the unfortunate club. I still see my 23 on Instagram weekly.

Keep an eye on bike life pages local to you.

I wouldn't rely on an airtag in the future. I now use a gps tracking device not connected to apple. Career thieves cant figure out if an airtag is present.

I also added more cams and typically store my bike with no wheels when its chained in garage. Got me super paranoid but prepared now.
