Doesn't help but CP will do fine. A very talented guy that has overcome and conquered more than most would dare attempt and showed true class in a defeat that happened while on the sidelines. If he can ride the big bikes like the 250f and stay upright he will be fun to watch.

Gonna have to wait one more year for the Cairoli/Pourcel rivalry to heat back up I guess, unless Cairoli races some SX.

This could effect his contract negotiations if they haven't been signed already.

He definitely has less bargaining power than he did a week ago - I don't think losing the title makes any difference, just the surgery.

At best, CP will have 6-7 weeks to test and get ready for A1. Not ideal but If anyone can get ready in 6 weeks on a new team, I would say Pourcel can.

I agree on the losing the title versus surgery deal. His ability to read and understand French will give him an advantage in comprehending the JMB manual on training.

Well that just sucks. I still think he will be fine come A1 though. The kids obviously got the heart to come back strong from injury.

If it was a total separation, and had to be put back in, I would get another opinion.

Arthroscopic isn't going to work.

Of all the surgeries that i have had,Shoulder was the worst,Hurts like hell,Recovery time was way longer than i expected even with therapy it still hurt so bad i didn't even think about getting back on the bike,Hope he can get enough seat time before sx?

I hope he has a speedy recovery and wish him the best,I wasnt that much of a fan at first but the more the series went on and seen how much heart the kid has you have to respect that.I agree if anybody can be ready be A1 it is CP.

Did you have Arthroscopic, or the full blown Bankart Reconstruction?

Started out Arthroscopic and ended up Labrum rotater and clean up, Usually what happens when you dislocate your shoulder tears everything up,Curious to see what all he ended up having done then gauge about how long it will take.

I separated my shoulder many, many times and finally had arthroscopic surgery wherein the capsule was shrunk and the rotator cleaned up. Lengthy rehab followed but separated shoulder again shortly thereafter.

Had a major get-off a year later and completely destroyed same shoulder (as well as ACL etc. on knee) and underwent the Bankart procedure. Much longer (and more grueling) rehab this time, but shoulder has stayed in place since then (2003).

Knocking on wood for CP. That was a great, competitive series and a shame to see it end the way it did.

Just curious, do you repeat offenders wear chest protectors with the shoulder pads? Would the floating shoulder protectors have prevented that injury?

Based on your description above, you didn't separate your shoulder. You dislocated it.

The procedures you're describing are not done for shoulder separations. In fact, rarely do we operate on shoulder separations.

Here's to a quick recovery for Pourcel.

I have separated and dislocated the same shoulder years ago and both times was wearing a Fox Roost 2 with the suspended shoulder pads. They may help if you hit the ground just right but most shoulder injuries seem to happen when your arm is extended which puts leverage/force through the arm into the joint and pops it out. No shoulder pad can help in that case IMO.

I still wear a 661 defender but I doubt it is going to do much to prevent future dislocations. In my original dislocation I stretched ligaments and skipped surgery so my joint is unstable and have popped it out about 4 times since over the years, none from riding or crashing. Once when I sneezed real hard when my arm was extended reaching for something. That was fun to explain in the ER.
