Hey guys.....I need a pipe to help open the top end power on my new YZ 450. The bottom end and mid range is really good , but it flattens out on the top.

I need to get my hands on the July 2010 MXA magazine in which they had a big pipe shootout for my bike , and for the life of me , I can't find any articles about that specific test.

I was looking at the Yoshimura and the Akrapovic systems ( need a full system ) , and even the DRD.

I don't want to lose any power on the bottom or mid range , but it could be mellowed out just slightly.....but it really needs the top end opened up a bit.

BTW.......if you have any ideas where to buy the damn thing , that would help to. i found a bunch of places , but what's a good trust worthy shop with good prices to buy from?

Thanks dudes.

Don't have the MXA here at work but I recall some of those pipes retailing upwards of $1300.00-$1400.00! Yikes. Can't fudge it with a gearing change or remapping?

hey jeff
I got a 10 yz450, I put an fmf full system on it and it works awesome. I also have a yamaha power tuner thing. I changed the mapping a little and that seemed to help. I also went up a tooth in the rear sprocket. I have been racing down at PIR and got holeshots every moto. Dont buy a tuner, you can use mine. its really easy and i come down that way all the time.
I got my header pipe off ebay for 306 dollars, got the muffler from the shop up in skagit.

Newmann : the retail prices on those pipes are crazy.....but I have looked around and found full Aluminum and Stainless exhaust systems for under $500.00. No way in hell i'd pay that much for an exhaust.

Matt ( Hopsrev86).......DUDE! Where the hell you been? Been looking for you and Parks to go do some roosting with me and Rands! I'm not sure on the FMF exhaust.. Although it may be an option , but I never had any luck with the packing staying in the mufflers very long. Same goes with the PC TI-4 exhaust. I have heard good things about the Yoshimura and a couple others.

Either way.....Matt , please send me your email addy in a PM. i'd love to hook up with ya brother and do some riding. Maybe Wards creek in a couple weeks for the practice? Burnt ridge or Riverdale? Me and Rands are trying to figure things out.

X2. on that for the new Yammy!, Cant go wrong on any of the mentioned exhausts. MXA said the yosh was the best pipe tested(for what its worth) CK mxa dot com and go back to the old article online. My buddy put the fmf full system and mapped it with the tool, added a tooth on the rear and the bike rips! We expect pics also! LOL! I heard the Dr D pipe is good but the can needs packed often! I ve had yosh and fmf products Quality on the yosh and Akropvic(oops) were second to none! You get what you pay for. Good Luck Jeffro503.

The MXA article liked the Yosh the most for the biggest horsepower gain and aggresive rev. The Akro was also liked for spreading out the rev more.

I have a full stainless FMF which is towards the wide rev side of things. All improve the top end.

I agree about the tuner really being able to change the character of the bike while not really adding horsepower, more like the delivery of the power. I use the GYTR map for a pipe only, regular gas.

Anyway, I got a raging deal at OEMCYCLE.COM on the FMF for $440 when FMF was offering 20% off. You have to order the slipon and header separate for stainless which is now around $619.

They currently have the full Yosh in stainless/al for $475.94 (ding ding ding).

Akro $765.

One other thing, the MXA article found some good improvement by just adding a slip on. They felt the stock header is pretty good but the stock can narrows down a lot at the very end which they felt hampered the top end.

Thanks man...good info!

NE14MX......might sound like a strange question , but did you happen to play MCM2 and design a track called NE14MX ? Just remembered an extremely cool track I used to play on MCM2 is all.

Not me on the track design. While it's probably a common use of letters and numbers, tThe name came from the licence plate Jeff Ward ran on his truck eons ago.

Ahhh....got ya! BTW.....just checked out that OEM parts site....very cool! And great prices! Dang near tempted to get the full TI and aluminum Yoshi set for $796.00. That stainless set for $475.00 is tough to beat though! Now we are getting into my price range.
