125 to 144?

Our cylinders bad and we are gonna have it turned into a 144 by eric gorr does he do good work? Does the 144 last as long as a 125 would normally such as piston life and stuff what should we watch out for?

I've heard the 144 doesn't last quite as long but good enough if you keep up on it. Try searching the thumpertalk forum cause there is a ton of information on there about the 144's.

alrightthanks yea we will how about the crank though that should be fine right? how would you compare a 144 to a 250f?

I personally love 2 strokes. I just got to ride a KTM150 and that is my favorite bike to ride on a motocross hands down! The power was great right with a 250F if not better.

from what DB bike hinted the 144 has more power, the 250f is faster (in general) on a track, and the 144 is more fun... of course i could be wrong but tha'st what i got out of the hints they gave for the next issue when they do a 144 vs 250... id choose a 144 over a 250f any day though Evil

Eric Gorr has been around for a long time, have heard nothing but good things about his work. I've never heard a downside to a 144 upgrade,and our KTM144 is an absolute blast.

If you don't mind me asking, approximately how much is it to have Eric rebuild the engine? I have a CR125 that could use a new bottom end, and I would love to make it a 139cc at the same time. I would guess around $600, is that in the ball park?

20cc huh.. does it really make that big of a difference? Or is it just the idea of having a slightly bigger engine that makes the 144's seem better?

It's good for about 4-5hp. It's a pretty worthwhile mod, especially if the cylinder already needs a replate and piston/rings.

I rebuilt my RM125 top end about 5 hours ago.. maybe next rebuild... wish I knew someone with a 144 so I could compare.

I have a 02 YZ144 that EG built in 04 and it is a ton of fun... The +2 overbore does make the cylinder thin on the top were the head gasket sits and mine did crack their and I had to have it welded and replated... It did last a long time though.

Whatever you do ,don't go for the Athena kit. It's junk. Exhaust butterflys always broke,you can't get parts,only the kit. Had head leaks,and more trouble with it that you can imagine. I had an ex pro Kawi guy working on it from the start and we gave up.
