Okay I posted a few weeks ago about swapping a longbody 36mm pwk to my 02 cr125.

No one really answered so I’m trying again. Currently it has a #7 slide, cek needle with a 185 main and 52 pilot. The pilot is perfect. Main is about spot on with this needle. Runs pretty good but cannot get rid of sputter between 1/8 and 1/4 throttle no matter where needle is. Higher the clip on the needle the better it is

I read multiple post about different triple taper needles being really good for these swaps and I read some people had had luck with Nozh and nozi needles from ktm so I tried the nozh. It’s actually more responsive up to about 1/8 then a sputter from being way too rich from about 1/8th all the way to 3/4. Even after stepping down to a 175 main which was about right at wide open.

I’m really looking for advice on which ones someone with experience thinks would work best because I really can’t afford to just buy random needles until I find one that works well. The cek actually runs pretty good aside from the 1/8th throttle sputter

Not 100% sure but I'd be looking at the slide. The new YZ's run well with a #5.5/6 slide. Different bike I know but typically 125 to 125 jetting is in the ball park between brands on the same carb.

Have you tried Pilot sizes either side of 52 with the CEK Needle? If you have and you cant find a Pilot to work with the needle, then the carb slide is your only option left for that throttle range.

Another one to check, and i dont mean this to sound patronising, but is the spark plug correct? I made the fatal error of running a #9 plug in my 1989 RM250, when it really needed an #8. The bike would sputter and run bad below half throttle regardless of jetting. The plug was just too cold to make it run at low RPM's. just another thing to check.

We normally ran number 5 slides in the PWK36s as well as the PWK38s on the later model CR125s. That 1/8th throttle range is the slide. The spec we started with in the PWK 36 was a 52 slow, CGK needle, 175 main and 5 slide.

IMO, That CEK needle is probably a little lean on clip height, and the #7 slide is probably lean as well, especially when used in a 36mm carb. The triple taper needles that I know would work in that bike, with that carb, are no longer available. I would be looking to use a richer  CCx needle, along with a richer 6.0--6.5 slide. The pilot and main do look like they would be in the ballpark though. I'm not sure if anyone is going to get you right on, you're going to have to do some testing on you own.

Yeah I know I’ll have to do some testing and I’m fine with that. Was just hoping for some suggestions that way I’m not just shooting in the dark.

About the slide, are the slides the same between short and long body pwk?

Any particular cc needle you recommend as a starting point?

I did see one guy this morning that said the ccl needle worked great with the #7 slide but of course he was talking about the pwk38. I was considering trying it next

Did the cgk normally turn out about right with the 36?

The slides for the PWK 36 and larger are the same. Some do have a little notch on the bottom which allows air in when the slide is closed, giving a leaner mixture at idle. The spec I gave is for the slide without the notch.

The CEK needle you have is just 2 clip positions richer than the CGK, so you can try the CEK to get a feel for it.
