I am heading to germany for surgery on my back. I can go to either city, same company, just different clinic. From a medical stand point there is no difference where I go. Airfare seems to be about the same. I figure I'll hang out for a day or two. I've never been to either city, I have spent sometime in germany though. Suggestions?

Been in Dusseldorf city center twice, it was kinda cool, but pretty typical Euro/German city center

Have not been to Cologne, but will for INTERMOT Show, about same time as you

My gut says they're likely both very similar due to proximity

Only been to the southern part. I would probably go to Dusseldorf, seems smaller.
What are you having done to your back?

I've never been to Dusseldorf, but have seen it on a bunch of BMX vids. Pretty cool university town from what I've seen.

I HAVE been to Cologne. VERY cool place. Its been a few years, but I really enjoyed the architecture and the scenery in and around the city.

Just do some internet research or grab yourself a Lonely Planet or Frommers (etc) type guide book to see what they offer in terms of things to do, places to stay, etc. Choose the one that offers the best options for you.

Either way, HAVE FUN!!!

I knew about your injury and that you got into cycling. I didn't know about your continuing pain. I had a back injury in '94, not as serious as yours, and am up and down with pain. I'll be watching for your results. Good luck and have fun in Germany.

I have been to Cologne, some history there, but nothing special really. On an important note, good luck with the treatment where ever you decide to go!!!

I've been to both places a few times but that was back in the early 80s. I was stationed just south of Köln (Cologne). I would say six of one, half dozen of the other.

The company I work for has an office just outside Cologne and I've been there a few times on business. I'm not sure about Dusseldorf but let's just say you can consider Cologne the San Fransisco of Germany...
