Without brands/sponsors like Yamaha ,Suzuki, Honda,Kawasaki etc.... you have no dirt bikes, so you wouldn't even have a sport in general to participate in,let alone be a fan of.
It is theirs and if they want to bring in mainstream sponsors like Energy Drink sponsors, then so be it. Wink

Then show me where the sport would be without Honda,Yamaha,Kawasaki,Suzuki,KTM ,Etc...

I can tell you this much, the sport survived with participants at all levels for many years, way before it had a larger fan base of non-.participants Wink

Those are the manufacturers. Motocross is one of the few motorsports where the fans actually participate in the sport on amateur level themselves. If you start treating them like crap, you are going to have a lot of displeased customers.

Right now the sponsors are treating us like crap, all over a minor issue. A minor issue has turned into a big deal for the racing fans who are getting robbed big time, all over a seemingly minor issue. How the hell can any moto fan think this is OK?

To me it was the most anticipated race all year! I´ve saved up and paid for hotel and plane tickets and a rental car. Now one of the fastest teams won´t show up with arguably the best rider(s) because of BS.

Whoever says motocross should grow: stick it in you @ss! This is what happens when a sport grows. Money goes way before pride, fans and racing. We have been screwed and robbed of possibly the race of the decade!

Whoever works in the Italian federation, and the bitching sponsors of AC and DP - I´m e-raping you all, and I´m definitely not buying anything from their sponsors either!

There´s no point in going anymore - at least not this year
Get a life kid!!!!!!!!!!! Its a exhibition race!!!!!!!!!! There is a shit ton of money being spent on a race that does not matter. Those that don't show are winning the game.

PS, I think the sponsors will be OK if you don't buy there swag.

Those same sponsors had no problem with any of the other Countries/Teams attending the event and they are footing the bill for other riders/teams to attend the event.
With that said.....
Italy/FMI seems like the problem to me,not the sponsors.

Give them their well deserved place on the front of the jersey....the sponsors are just doing their jobs. It is principle for them.

IF they weren´t there AC and DP might have sponsors who do give a damn and actually realize that it is bad for the sport and bad PR for their company to screw the fans over!

They pay the bill but that gives them no right to screw us over. They are already the reason why podium interviews are a waste of time and space, they already cover the banners and bikes too. It´s about time they have a sit down with the Italian federation and cooperate. Maybe both parties need to give an take a bit to satisfy the fans.

Sponsors don´t rule the sport, we just allow them to. And Red bull/ Monster don´t seem to give two shits about the racing, which means we shouldn´t give two shits about their products. AC and DP could EASILY get better sponsors who actually cared about the sport and how they portray themselves to the fans of the sport. Which by the way are their customers too.

No need for sponsors or sponsors are just supposed to pay for racing solely out of the goodness of their hearts, not for any return on that investment....just fork over the money, and walk away.

Never mind getting a ROI.
Never mind getting exposure.

Just give up the money and STFU

Yeah, that'll work

Fans don't see it that way. You're coming in from a one-sided business perspective, just like he is coming in from a one-sided fan's perspective.

You speak as if you don't get it either and I'm sure you do. You have to see both sides and to utter "stupidity" to a fan's compassion probably isn't necessary.

Regardless the matter should have been overlooked and compromised for this one-off race, to satisfy everyone involved.

And at the same token, your statement above can easily be taken both ways - if they fans were not there, would they be racing? Not a chance. Chicken and the egg as they say.

So the sponors decide who´s going essentially, not the federations? That IS what happens in essence if the Italian federation gives in. And what is that going to do to our sport huh?

Imagine if Monster had two riders in the MXDN´s team, and Dungey was picked as the 3rd member with Rockstar as his main sponsor. So if any of these sponsors say "we won´t race on the same team with a competing energy company - imagine what that would do to the American team. Two good riders would have to be dropped, or perhaps the best rider dropped with a sub par replacement who has only sponsors outside the energy market.
Is that something you guys are willing to accept? Business politics ruling and picking "who´s representing what company"? I think that is what the Italian federation is trying to prevent, and rightfully so! Otherwise the MXDN´s would turn into a WWF-like fake ass sport were sponsors decide who gets to ride!

The sponsors are not gonna compromise...they are there for exposure only $$$$!
That is their job!
And I cant blame them....
If they give up a jersey spot ,what next year,no bike graphics, helmet logos,etc..?

The FMI Team had a good chance at podiuming or even winning this event and getting far more exposure by giving into to the sponsors, then they do not giving into them.

The sponsors are The Giants of the industry, they are not gonna lay down.
It is common sense.

Yep, think about it,wouldnt the event be better if AC & DP were there racing this year?

The Italian federation will only scare sponsors away by doing what they are doing.

It is a business and if you do not give the sponsors the exposure they request....they will move on. Just as they did in this case...

The sponsors get airtime every time the riders swing a leg over a bike for an entire season. They are paying the rider to risk life and limb so that the product is marketed to the correct "adrenaline junkie" demographic. This happens the entire season, the riders are getting paid, correct - but doing it at a huge risk to sell these drinks.

This is the MXDN. A single day of racing. For the hardcore fan, this is like watching your marine corps going to war for your country. For a rider - the day you get to ride for the pride of your flag! What a great honor.

If the sponsors still got a full decal kit etc, and still wouldn't let the guys go ride - in my opinion that's like spitting on the Italian flag.

This is ONE DAY you get to ride FOR YOUR FLAG and your people back home, and not for a drink full of caffeine.

The sponsors are being stupid here. Surely the sponsors have lost more money by not sending the team? l I think the revenue lost by Italian (and other AC) fans now shunning the drink will amount to much more than the costs of sending the riders.

Imagine they sent out a PR, saying they are not happy with not getting the advertising on the jersey, but because they support the event, the fans and the Italian MX community, they will look past it for the good of the sport. How many more drinks would they sell in future? Man, I'd go buy a six pack right now AND put a sticker on my bike.

If Bubba and RC were held back from riding for USA a few years back (by Monster), how would you feel about Monster? If I was an American I would vow never to touch the stuff again in my life.

But that's just my opinion, I'm just an average fan and not a sponsor. However, I feel I am not alone.

The sponsors AREN´T in charge of that, the federation and the teams managaer is. Would you rather have office rats at Monster pick the MAerican team, or Roger DeCoster? Pretty easy answer, isn´t it?

It will if this trend continues. It has already started!! That´s the point! AC and DP´s sponsors decided these guys weren´t going racing! That is normally not their desition to make! They suck! They really, really suck! Imagine if Desalle´s sponsors did the same thing last weekend?

The federation won´t scare sponsors away from teams because of one lousy event! It´s not like Red Bull would say no to sponsor Cairoli to a championship all because of a conflict with his federation for a one off event!. In fact, if you take a look at most team jerseys from the MXDN´s the past 15 years you will notice that adverticing space has always been limited on MXDN´s gear for pretty much all teams every year. Why? Because they usually represent their countries with special one-off gear.

The Sponsors are paying DeCosters salary...... think about it.
If they didn't pay him ,he would go else where.
They will also be paying for him to go there.

It isn't a "trend",one incident doesn't make it a trend.
The FMI should have laid down and been thankful of the sponsors wanting to support their riders, country and team....

It sure as hell isn't gonna bring any new sponsors into the sport is it?
As for the gear the riders wear, these same sponsors had no problems with any other country. Then why are they having problems with the Italians?
Perhaps because they were being unreasonable...?

Where's the passion lads? Pretty funny that people here seems to accept the situation and just play along and argue to any point to support the differnt view just for the fun of it?

I don't know if some of you like to take it in your ass, that's probably stretching. But one have to acknowledged something is rotten in MX if things like this happens, maybe it has happen before but miniscule nations like Sweden that have 1/10 budget, and poor rider performance tend to send a team (I assume the best riders) which makes it crazy when a great nation like Italy wont. For you people that think sponsors are the key to everything, happiness etc that might be true, but this event has been around since the fifties, and I think it was possible because people where flexible and had the passion to make things happen before making tons of cash.

There are riders and teams that spend their own money, and there are riders than get paid millions to go anywhere. The later didn't create the sport and doesn't really make it for me when things like this happens...

But cash is king.

Again fuck the italian federation and Red Bull for being self centered and greedy money whores.

Therefore in a sense you will be supporting Red Bull's event.

If they weren't there, there'd be no team and AC or DP would never have made the team in the first place.
They pay and keep the teams afloat

I applaud both AC and DP for standing up for those who pay them and pay for the team to allow them to race.
Loyalty is something you don't see a lot of anymore

Blaming those who pay the bills is pure stupidity

Wow dude, and I thought you were a liberal.

Spot on, but are you sure?

Heh, not to bring politics into this... But isn't this a microcosm of the bigger picture?

how many people do you know that commited suicide over the MLB all star game? or for that matter any major american sporting event.

Are you just bored?

Therefore in a sense you will be supporting Red Bull's event.

You can say fuck them...but also at the same time you have to tolerate them. Smile

Of course, sadly I have no option, so for sure I support it in a way, but do they want me to buy their pink poison as well? I will not. I'm not a heave energy drinker of those, but the few I buy will not be Red Bull until AC goes! Sad Not that they care, but it might add up if more people follow their hearts?

I don't know how I can retaliate on the Italian federation other than saying I hate them and they shouldn't load us with their personal issues. The riders in Italy pay their salary, and this event by their fees, they should know that these muppets wont let their hero go because of this crap.

Honestly I have seen team Italy for years, and didn't know their federation sponsored their shirts. I wonder what amazing deal happened between Red Bull and team France that let Marvin go?

PS, I think the sponsors will be OK if you don't buy there swag.
If you ask Bailey, Omara, Ward, Johnson, LaRocco, Bradshaw, McGrath, Emig, Stanton, Charmiceal, and of course DeCoster would they agree with your statement?
You are entiled to your opionion of the MXdN but your opinion is not the the heart felt sentiment of hundreds of thousands of others around the world. We have been doing this for 30 or more years and the MXdN is really the ONLY race that matters to many of us.
I respect your hatred toward the event. You have made it very clear for years now. Might be better if you refrain from opening any thread MXdN related. And please for the love of God do not watch the event or coment on the results.

We will figure out a way to get through it without you.

And who cares who the sponsors even are? I have never made a purchase based upon a banner at a track, a name on an jersey, or a sticker on a bike. Never bought an "energy drink" in my life and never will. But I like that they dump millions upon millions of dollars into our sport. They have nice looking women in skimpy outfits. Only because of the pussy do I feel they have a place in our sport.

Italy wouldn't win anyways so what's it matter. Just imagine our team if we sent our best riders. lol We can send our second best riders and still win fairly easily... When I say second best I'm referring to the fact that a healthy RV and JS wouldn't be on 2 or 3 different levels than everyone else. RD and Short are great though (and Canard).. Good luck rest of the world.

Many of" Us" referrers to all the USA riders you named above, it only matters to the USA because they are not part of the Circus and only get a chance once a year to step up to that level in the Mega Hype All Star Motocross Show..no one benefits except the host nation and promoter...period

The MXdN has not been "fair" for decades. The USA is to big to be considered "one" country against places like Belgium. California has more riders than any other single nation in the world. Same with Florida. Hate to say the words but it may be time to drop the event and start a complete seperate world wide series that pays more than sx, nats, or the gps. It would be better for the sport and the fans who buy the bikes, trick parts, and bikes. Im dreaming I know. The sport is owned and run by the promoters and the sponsors. They call the shots. Fans mean nothing to them. Remember that the next time you read a PR announcement from any of them. Pure spin.
