I'm about to do my first powder coat job at home. I'll be doing a 87 YZ 250 frame. My question is how much powder do I need? I bought 1lb of gloss white. The bag looks like it won't be enough. I watched a few videos of guys at professional shops and it looks like the powder goes everywhere, with no real way to recover it. Is there a rule of thumb for how much to buy for doing a frame/subframe?

I've done a few frames using a cheap gun from harbor freight.   
It is less efficient compared to professional equipment, so you end up wasting a bit of powder.

One pound of Kawasaki green was enough to do two KX500 frames and associated small parts like foot peg and linkage mounts.

Use some cheap bolts from the hardware store to fill all your threaded holes or you'll be hating life trying to run a tap through all of them later.
Also protect the bearing bores in the steering head or you'll have incredible difficulty installing / removing the steering bearing races.
