Going to make some new doors for my kitchen cabinets.  Will be painted off white. I don't really want to use acrylic latex. I have spray equipment.

Hoping the pros on here will help me out.

Gallery Series from Sherwin Williams. Spray only application. It is waterborne but it’s super durable and the finish is unreal.

Also Kem Aqua from Sherwin is amazing as well. Glass like finish.

A true cabinet door paint meets kcma standards. A. Product like Renner. I’ve done probably 15 kitchen cabinet paint jobs. For readily available in my area I like breakthrough from PPG. Not from Home Depot. Gallery is great too. And advance as mentioned above is good too. Slow drying. BIN is my go to primer. Look up the cleaning process for sprayers though. It will destroy it if left to dry

Oh wow, i spy some other vital painters. Who knew lol..

I have yet to use gallery, but ive seen it and would likely use on my next cabinet job. Depending on the level of perfection you want, id consider emerald too with the right primer. I like my airless with grayco fflp tips. Go with a smaller orfice tip than what most product recommends. Id shoot cabinets in these materials with a 308.

However, if you're trying to go full custom, as mentioned above, there are some pretty wild specific cabinets paints out there but will be much less forgiving.

Off to spray out a house full of trim and doors with emerald in snowbound that we prepped yesterday!

I have a Sherwin dealer close by. I have an "HVLP" (not true hvlp) sprayer that I use for lacquer but lacquer needs a ton of prep. Too much work. Do I need an airless for the gallery or will my top feed sprayer work?

Since you’re in socal, I’d use Dunn Edwards aristoshield for paint grade. It’s an alkyd enamel. Finishes amazing in cabinet doors.

The best paint I’ve ever used hands down is Benjamin Moore’s Aura line. We live in a house built in 1900 & someone painted (many many times) the original cabinets prior to my family living there

First round of re-painting them myself was Sherwin Williams’s cabinet paint. I thought it was below average paint.

Next round, I used Aura (as I had used many times before on exterior projects) & they are holding up very well

I forgot about a product.. you may laugh but rustoleum has a cabinet kit.. i was introduced to it by a neighbor to a jobsite i was working. He was a talkative guy and ended up sayin hey, i did some painting and id like to see what a professional painter thinks of it.. i went in his kitchen expecting a shit show, however, i was pretty damn impressed with his rustoleum cabinet kit paint job. Used a weenie roller and the stuff leveled nice and i would say unless were talkin custom home stuff, most woulda found it acceptable..

Most places have quit selling oil base here. Besides, you cant get real paint thinner anymore. It's mostly acetone now. They call it paint thinner but they lie. No mineral spirits, denatured alcohol, turpentine or anything good. I have tried water based urethane and it's pure shit. probably just go with lacquer.

Full disclosure I work for Sherwin so naturally going to recommend what I sell. That being said Renner is a great product that’s hard to beat. Most cabinet guys absolutely love it.

What type of sprayer? Airless or HVLP/compressor type?

Most cabinet guys i see use their airless with an fflp tip in 208, 308, or 310 for larger stuff. I typically don't have to worry about cabinet work in the new construction type of work i do. Have only sprayed a handful of them in some apartment repaint situations where the project managers spec'd lower line paints lol.

Jarid, im Jerad and i currently have Emerald wall paint in agreeable gray satin on the very thumb typing this. Lol. Yesterday I used emerald urethane and was a dumbass and didn't wear a head sock. Took a bath in Olive oil to remove most of it from my head lol.

It depends. Some use convential in a shop setting and I have guys that will use an electric airless like a Graco GX19. GX19's are awesome HVLP sprayers.

Ya the UTE is a pain in the ass to get off my hands sometimes. Good shit thought. My wife is a project cordinator for a Door/Trim/Stair/Railing company and I donated some some UTE for their homeshow booth and ending up being voluntold to help paint the shiplap. I used a Purdy mini roller to roll it out and it came out really nice. Would have been better sprayed. But still looked good.
