Who the hell do you guys go through to get theft coverage for your bikes? And what does it cost (if you don't mind me asking)?

I have Progressive. $75 a year
Theft, Fire, Total loss
Also $5,000 aftermarket parts coverage.

I just got my 08 and put it on that before I drove from PA to FL.
I hear all these stories of peoples bikes getting riped off.
$75 insurance is not alot for peace of mind.

I always had Farmers in the 80s/90's and real reasonable rates.
Progressive sounds like a pretty good deal, espec. w/aftermarket cov.

I have had Progressive on everything Ive ever had. About the same price as above. A guy I knew got his box trailer and 3 bikes ripped off, all insured with Progressive, and he got nothing. I don't know the specifics, but it had something to do with "travel to a sporting competition" or "Stunting." As I said, I don't know all of the details.

With that, I changed to my auto carrier, and they are about $140 a year for comprehensive. In shopping for insurance, it is very important to discuss in detail coverages purchased. Ask lots of questions about what part of your coverage covers for differing situtations.

Auto carrier? And that is who?
If my bike is ripped off on the interstate or at home it's covered.

I was insured with State Farm (for about 20 years) and I switched to Geico about 3 years ago (for my autos and bikes.) Seem to be pretty decent so far. I have never had a theft claim on a bike, and hope to keep it that way, however my friend is an agent and he and I discussed in detail the types of coverage that you would need in order to protect that thing anytime its sitting in the trailer, in the garage, in the truck, or on the stand.

A lot of people think that their home owners will cover theft from the garage but that is simply not true.

I guess that premium is nothing more than piece of mind. Just my $.02.

Aaron.

Just saw this thread! Holy shit, I had no clue you could insure a MX bike. Calling my agent now! Thank's T-Fish for starting this one!

You have to make sure they don't try to look up motorcycle policies for you. Motorcycle policies are for licensed motorcycles that are ridden on the street. Try to do a dirt bike on one and it won't go through because the VIN isn't available on the DMV computer and so on.

You need to have them do an OHV policy.

Progressive rules.........had a bike stolen outta my garage and they were at my doorstep w/check in 21 days(full nada retail value plus sales tax!!!)and the cost is like 75.00 a year. Truly the best money I`ve ever spent for insurance.

Progressive is great if its stolen out of your garage, but as soon as you leave your property, it is not covered.

Example, load up bikes, lock them in race trailer, stay at hotel saturday night. Bikes get stolen out of trailer. Not covered.

Allstate. $49 a year for $6500 worth of theft only. If you have an enclosed trailer they will allow you to specify what amount of content you wanted covered. I pay a small monthly amount for the enclosed for $5000 worth of content insurance.

This isn't true for my Progressive policy. Why do you think this is the case?

Progressive doesn't cover race events unless you pay extra then it will cover. It's an option but a good one. They give you a discount if you're an AMA member.

Not true on mine as well. Liability and comprehensive no matter the location.

Nationwide Insurance. Progressive is the worst in my opinion. If you want to pay their fees and get hosed when you need the insurance go for it. Progressive Insurance is a Racket.

Has anyone actually got ripped off away from home and collected the full amount from insurace? If so please reply.

I called 3 companies and they all said the same thing. "If your property is NOT being used for personal gain (financial or monetary) you SHOULD be covered. Yes a $3. plastic trophy is considered monetary. I decided to take off the sponsor stickers from the hauler, put on [b:2qvjmet1]free animal waste disposal stickers [/b:2qvjmet1] and buy 4 solid block locks and a gun instead. Same price.
I remember the days when we could leave our pits at a amature national with out worry. Now we load and unload every time we leave.
