Anyone have any direct experience with both of these?

Ohlins is very popular at my local tracks. Lots of inserts and full forks. Spun a few laps in a friends FC350 with Ohlins inserts. It was a great ride.

But I’m kinda hung up on the Blackjack forks/inserts and would like to try them.

Thoughts?

I have had both, on two different bikes so it’s not an apples to apples comparison. I did have Mx tech inserts in my Husky 350 and it was the best forks I have had in twenty years.

No personal experience riding Ohlins, but plenty on MX Tech. I don't see anything Ohlins is doing that would set them apart, though; it's like running 15 year old suspension. I'm sure a really well set up set of Ohlins is great, but you can say that for most anything that's set up well for you.

MX Tech is constantly innovating, lightweight, and with solid internal technology. Given the choice of any kit suspension, I'd take MX Tech every time.

No MX-Tech experience, but I had Ohlins F (TTX inserts/springs)/R(Flow Shock) on my last KX450 (‘18).

The forks were incredibly plush, and didn’t bottom excessively…however, they moved around a lot more than I’d prefer. If I’d have kept the bike, I’d have had someone work on the valving. I’ve heard (FWIW) that what I felt is sort of an Ohlins trait. I did see that the damping rods were WAY smaller diameter than anything Showa or KYB has used in a long time…so that might tend to point to some dated design traits. Since stock was the nearly satanic SFF-TAC air forks, anything was better in my opinion.

I was completely unimpressed with the shock. Had I kept the bike, I would likely have put the OE shock back on and sold the Ohlins. Other than looking cool, it did nothing better than stock, and several things worse (like absolutely blowing through the travel on g-outs). It also moved around (travel-wise) a lot more than comfortable for me.

I run the MX Tech Lucky inserts in my 2020 350SXF. I am very happy with them. The increase in feel and traction in the front of the bike has been a huge step up from the AER fork. Also, it is very plush and has a great amount of control over square edges and chop. I would definetly recommend and would use again.
