you seem to have studied this issue at length so please compare myself and ringer and what was posted/emailed.
don't you have yer own club anyways chuckie?
then again maybe ringer is one of the perpetual returners here and has never left? hehehe....l
Maybe you could add a baseline spelling/grammar threshold to eliminate the 12 year olds and the people who live to correct everyones spelling and grammar.
Then, just for fun, filter out all the popular obscenities so the young guys can see just how creative BobbyM really is.
I think most on here love the sport but there are negatives in our sport. Are we supposed to ignore them?
There are positives as well i do think we need to point them out.

I mean, besides the facebook crap, this board has zero improvements since it's inception.
Not trying to be debbie downer, just stating some facts, since this seems to be a "whine thread"...
I always enjoy chatting motocross with people in real life, but for some reason message boards are a place where opinions clash, and opinions that don't get spoken often in real life, are stated here.
There have been social-psychology studies on road rage, that seem similar to the message board phenomenon. For example, if you're walking in a street and you nearly bump into someone, you and the other person exchange facial expressions, or verbal cues acknowledging each other in a sincere manner. This recognition obviously doesn't take place when someone cuts you off in traffic, so people are more likely to lay on the horn.
Similarly, discussing motocross in real life shares the same kind of features: you can usually tell when you need to shut your mouth in real life - unlike messageboards.
I'm kind of curious to do some research on this topic. I think this type of stuff goes on with all sorts of message boards. I know I've seen it in cycling forums I've joined in the past.
Bauer's right, boards change. It's way more combative in a mean spirited way, and about stupid stuff. Even with the new and tamer Bauer (sorry Steve). When the advice to noobs is to check the vibe for awhile before posting, the vibe suggests they should come on swinging.
Sometimes the long timers have said all they really have to say on interesting stuff. Then they either stop posting or 90% of their posts seem to be talking crap about one another over something that started . . . whenever, ala Chuck and Bob in this thread.
i've had the same gmail account for right around 6-8 years now.
i agree Steve. this place is a lot different than when i was banned back in January, it seems a lot more hostile than i remember. i've been guilty of everything mentioned in the original post, however i have definitely taken a step back during my time off and realized it wasn't worth the hassle of "trying" to be a dick head.
I think you're right on this.. can I borrow your bike?
The economy is taking a toll for sure, I do think things are starting to turn around some, I know it is for myself. I've found hitting the gym does wonders, and results in less broken bones.
The quality over quantity thing is cool, but, I think you have to be careful with that idea... MT comes to mind.
It would be cool if people could discuss criticisms and comments about riders or incidents, without being labeled a "hater" and attacked by people acting as lobbyists for said riders, and teams. I would say most decent threads go down in flames because of this, and the resulting mindless bickering that follows. It's tired and worn out.
JMO... now about that bike...
Addition of the non-moto board was the single worst thing that happened at MT and MD, IMO, in terms of having a stable tone to the boards.
The problem is that while you try and get "attention" you're often times only laughing at yourself and your self-perceived witty and stinging internet posts. It's quite annoying and frustrating to everyone else. Yamaboy isn't innocent by any means historically, but experience has taught him well. No matter how much time you give them, some people will just never understand or respect their fellow man. Perhaps there are advantages to being blissfully ignorant (or at least acting that way).
There is some truth to "stepping back from the keyboard." Take time to evaluate you life, your loved ones, and what's happening in the world. It's not worth smashing your keyboard or seeing how many idiotic responses you can post.
In the end some things are funny, some things are frustrating, and some things aren't worth the cyber space they're posted on. Know how to differentiate and you'll be much the wiser. For God's sake though, never lose your edge . . . dot com.
Good luck GuyB.[/color]

Thanks for stepping forward so I could help you out with this.
