1 month in: The Trump Administration Kicking Ass & Taking Names

The national debt ballooned under Trump.  Period.   He was one of the worst presidents in history, which is what enabled a very weak candidate Biden, to soundly defeat him.   

These are always fun to look at, who could get bipartisan bills passed, or, also who couldn't get shit done while controlling all three. 

I hope Trump can get Congress to work together.

Serious question: Have any of you seen any mathematicians post any sort of models that show how America can come out of this compounding debt? Like, how much principal needs to be thrown at it to make a real dent? 

To me, it looks like we are so fucked. Like, what if China or Japan did a margin call? It just doesn't make any sense how we got here and why anyone would keep lending to us. But I readily admit I don't understand such things.

China, the second-largest foreign holder of U.S. debt, is selling them hand-over-fist, having sold one-third in the past five years. If the largest holder, Japan, has a fire sale in this environment, it would be the equivalent of a margin call on the U.S. Treasury Department—the moment the bank tells you to cough up more cash or they cut you off."

Russia and China have sold them for short term liquidity needs (they need cash to do whatever with), not as a strategic method of devaluing our own T bonds. If China sells 30% of their US T bonds (of which they own 2ish % total) what difference does that really make in the grand scheme?

People buy T bonds because they will be paid back, period

MEXICO CITY – Mexico on Thursday handed over major figures in the country’s criminal underworld to U.S. authorities, part of a surprise extradition of nearly 30 jailed convicts or others accused of ties to violent drug cartels.

Some are aging gang leaders who reigned over international trafficking rings decades ago focused on cocaine and heroin. Others are much younger leaders engaged in moving large quantities of deadly fentanyl into the U.S. more recently.

Mexican authorities confirmed officials handed over 29 cartel figures to the U.S. The decision follows ongoing threats by President Donald Trump to impose across-the-board tariffs on Mexican goods, which he said on Thursday would take effect on March 4.

Reuters reported the unusual handover, Mexico’s largest in years, before the U.S. and Mexican governments announced it.

U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, in a statement, confirmed the U.S. had taken the 29 defendants into custody.

At least two of the defendants – including Rafael Caro Quintero, who is alleged to have been among those responsible for the 1985 murder of a U.S. antinarcotics agent – will be arraigned on Friday in Brooklyn federal court, a person familiar with the matter said.

Also handed over are newer narcos such as Antonio Oseguera Cervantes – the brother of Mexico’s most-wanted drug lord, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who leads the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG.

U.S. authorities have offered a $15 million reward for any information leading to the arrest of Nemesio, known as “El Mencho.”
