Both.

It's one of those ridiculous arguments.

For me/us, it's about the peppers, and spices, and flavor.

Beans are just filler.

With beans. When I lived in Phoenix, AZ one mexican guy shared some homemade chilli, made by his grandmother. I don`t think I`ve had better since.

The Doghouse was my wife’s first place of employment while in high school. Yes, she’s from the SW Valley.

We had stuffed sopapillas for dinner last night 😉

Apologize. Maybe you pushed it to the edges of his comfort zone, (It is a good joke, congrats 🍻).  Better to keep the relationship intact. Beans in chili. Yup.

Definitely 2 different things. Chili that's good in a bowl doesn't make chili that's good on a dog and vice versa.

Not necessary but definitely preferred. I always buy a few different cans of different kinds, gives it some texture variety and stuff.

I ya'll are ever in Austin, the Texas Chili Parlor is worth hitting up. You can get a variety plate of three different kinds and it's delicious.

I get it.

Most importantly…you can get decent “cup of chili” at a drive thru. I kinda like that. As a dude that drives…A LOT…I’ve gotta say…

Thanks for the reminder!

They'll throw in hot chili sauce packets to spice it up along with onions, crackers, and sour cream for free.

On a side note, when making something that calls for beans like pintos or kidney beans try substituting yellow beans or as they are called, Maya Cobas. They cost more but give a creamier texture.

When it's time to cook up a batch of chili, we take it serious.

Roast our own peppers, usually  ancho's, poblanos, jalapenos.

We'll dry habaneros, put them in a coffee bean grinder with other pieces of dried pepper, add the powder to sea salt, cumin, etc... use that as seasoning.

Roast tomatoes, garlic, onions, and other vegetables,

Cook our own beans, black, pinto, kidneys,  either dehydrate, or freeze dry, chop them up coarsely.

Slow cook.

Served over fritos.

Sometimes I'll serve it over brown rice.

Make enough to dehydrate for use layer around the campfire, when others are dragging their spoon through a bag of mountain house hiker meals. 🤣

Not sure how far outside our area they're located.

But a chain of fast food chili drive thru's called, Petros is awesome.

Family pack come with plenty of fritos, cheese, tomatoes, onions, olives, sour cream, all on the side.

I vote....  "YES"

Chili of pretty much any kind is okay in my book.

On that note....  my ALL time favorite chili is World Famous Tommys.... on their cheeseburger.   With a little on the side to dip my fries in.
