Awesome job and thanks for info it has helped me with mine so far I’m building a 2021 gas gas into a 200sx and doing a full engine rebuild using a 2001 exc engine and a 2013 set of cases so I can add electric start. It’s becoming a money pit so I hope it’s worth it. I would not have gone this far but after riding a 200 in a 1999 frame recently I was hooked the 200 engine is amazing I can’t believe they stopped it.
Are you going to put the 125 transmission or keep the WR transmission from the exc m motor?
I managed to find a 2013 125sx gearbox on eBay with the cases so I have used the SX gears. I should have gone with new though as the cases have wear around the swingarm pivot and the gearbox needed a new main shaft and a couple of gears as they had minor pitting on the surfaces. I have renewed all bearings and even gone with a brand new crank and barrel as both the second hand parts were very worn, I will eventually build another engine with all the spare parts to keep as a spare. The EXC came with the soft PV governor but I managed to find the red/blue spring governor so I can try them both I also have a new DEP 200sx pipe and 3 different ignitions to try including a vortex x10 so really hoping this thing rides as good as I think it will.
Finally finished the 200MC and I added e start. Looks and runs great. Also got cone valve forks, ohlins shock and vortex X10 ignition to finish it off![]()

What ignition did you settle on? I have the 125sx, 150sx vortex x10 for 125 and the original 2001 200exc ignition to try, my old 1999 200mxc runs the same ignition that came on the 1999 125sx and it runs great but haven’t tried anything else on it. I have 14/45 gearing on this one as that was standard in 2003/2004 on the SX. Need the weather to improve so I can try it out. I found the tail pipe the hardest part to get to fit on the whole build. I’m running the 39mm carb with v force reeds as that works well on the 99 bike.
I ran a 150sx ignition at the start but after a while I was able to track down a 200sx ignition.
That’s what I currently have in the bike.
Yes I ran into the same issues with the tail pipe. All had to be cut and adjusted to suit the steeper angle of the newer rear sub frame
