It's funny: Many riders will tell the media they want it rough, but then they tell John and I they want it smoother....
The beauty is, we get to do it again next year, and we plan on doing it better every time out. Rough tracks can be good and bad at the same time (Thunder Valley 250 moto one smooth = no passing; rough 250 moto two = instant classic!). It's a balance we need to find, and as long as it's safe and the racing is good, it's a winner.... But what if it's safe and smooth and the racing's still good?
Anyway, great input, thanks to all.. I like it rougher (when I am watching) and smooth (when I am hopefully second practice). We will find the sweet spot. Count on it.

And guys, thanks for the nice words, but we're all in this together. I try to do what we all want to see done, and sometimes it works. I listen to everyone, and I just try to get things done. Remember, we are just fans..... which is code for guys who never quite made it.

Thanks for the response. What other sport can address your issue and get a response from the top of the heap in 6 hours while sitting at your desk. As you can tell like a lot of us I'm very passionate about my opinions when it comes to this sport and it's a great feeling to be heard.

DC, what is your personal take on the idea that the smooth tracks with the more arced turns to suit 4 strokes create the higher speeds... vs the tighter tracks, rougher, more bumps, lower speeds etc that seemed to be the norm 10 years ago...?
And a) which do you think hurts/helps the racing?
and b) which do you think causes more injuries?

I have personally done some things that caused him great aggravation. These were purely errors in my judgment, and frankly not very cool on my part. I don't know a soul who would have helped me afterwards. But in both cases he not only let them slide, he went out of his way to help me with rather large favors, that give him nothing in return. Just did it to help.
Once, back a couple years ago, when visit the RX offices, he told me that he had RX reasonably on track and was now going to focus on making outdoor MX the best series in the world. This was back 2 - 3 years ago, but I still can picture him saying it. It really stood out because he already is pretty set with the magazine, but wants the next challenge.
Too many people misjudge the guy.
