I am looking to pick up a ‘13 crf250r in a few days that’s quite a drive from where I am located. From what the owner has told me it was trail ridden before him, then only ridden a few times in the last year since he owned it. About 20 hours on it since valve adjustment, other than that was told it was stock runs great. I was sent a video of someone starting it and idling, and figured I’d ask your thoughts on how it generally sounds? I haven’t had bikes for 7+ years and all I’ve owned is 2 strokes, so I’m in the dark with what to look for generally on a 4 stroke. Any advice / feedback would be super sick. Thanks guys (attached YT link to video)

I have a 2012. Tough to tell over a video but I think it sounds good. I bought mine brand new and stupidly didn’t get an hour meter but I know I had well over 100 hours and 10 years of some moto but mostly trail riding before changing oil and forgetting to tighten the drain plug bolt 1 year ago. Rebuilt the motor and it’ll prolly be good for another 10. Although I am ready for a new one. But overall they’re pretty solid bikes
Thanks for the reply, making sure I do all the DD I can before I hop into the 4 stroke world and rebuilds get a lot pricier 💪🏼
Yeah I checked the valves after prolly 10 hours, shimmed the exhaust valve and that was it besides normal maintenance. If you want to throw an exhaust on it pro circuit has the full exhaust ti-5 for $400
As you mentioned, things are going to get more expensive. Not being a Debbie Downer, but one thing to keep in mind: at some point the 4T is going to become disposable; meaning it will cost more to rebuild than you could sell it for once it's rebuilt.
That doesn't usually happen with a 2T.
If you're just riding for fun this might be worth factoring into your decision.
Either way, good luck and have fun! 👍

I personally stay away from bikes with powder coated frames (and black plastic). Keep looking. 2014+ were better handling.
I can attest to the '14+ handling better. But if you're going to go that route, try to find a cherry '14 because the '15-'17 models came with the air forks that aren't usually liked nearly as much as the spring forks on the '14 (unless you find one that had swapped them out for '14 forks).
