Does seem pretty mysterious there Bob. All that talk before the season about "on/off, on/off, on" the Katoom was strange to say the least. Only a few people know the truth and they don't seem to be talkin'. At this point I'm not sure that even if Tony decided to start his own team...that he would trust any motor/suspension builder not to give him 2nd rate stuff. Cryin' shame and waste of talent. It ain't the first and won't be the last sad moto story. Just hope the final chapter hasn't been written. I still like Mike.

Maybe team Alessi is trying to get off the hook on the KTM contract without quitting (officially). Mike is doing worse than people thought but not so horrible where it makes it look like he is washed up. Perhaps Tony is pulling Mikey's strings to make the bike appear to be the issue and hoping that KTM will let Mike go thus having to pay out the remainder of the contract. If Mike just flat out quits, he gets nothing. Right bike/Wrong bike, over training or not, Im not sure what the issue is but Mike just doesnt look like his "win at all costs and never give up" self. He just really seems uninspired. Also he could be seeing Dungey riding basically his old bike saying to himself "I wish I was still there". Im sure by the end of the season or the end of the contract we will hear all about it from KTM and Tony.

I think you are off on the win at all costs and never give up, He is still giving the effort , something is just very wrong.

Very nice and classy post.

On a side note M.A has always been a better big bike rider. Why put him on a smaller bike other than he couldn't find anyone else who wanted to sign him?

On to the bike, I'm inclined to believe that Mike isn't up to par as he's admitted. But I have my doubts about the 350.
I'm a bit confused on what you're implying with you're "fixating" comment considering this is one, if not the only post I have quoted of yours.

You can believe I care and think about you and say things like that but I'm sorry I don't.

Seems the only one with a fixation here is you.

I doubt that AC is riding a 400... Tye Simmonds is on a 350 here and it'd be a marketing nightmare if it was a 400... Plus why go to all the trouble and say it's a 350 if it is a brand new bike... If it was a 400 just say it was a 400...

Regardless, the bike is winning here and in Europe and Mike won a race already... He's not riding well and it has nothing to do with the engine displacement...

What races has Mike won on it?

Fact is AC has a works bike and they can make it anything they want.

bingo...and it is at least a 400.

maybe all this midpack stuff and finishes will be good for mike, wake him up, he has to hate losing all the time, but man mentally he's been through the ringer. not sure if anybody can help him at this point because he's not helping himself. here's to hope and faith for mike alessi though....

Nobody likes losing, but Mike Alessi especially doesn't like it. Mike gets a real rough deal here but you rarely see those "not trying hard enough/coasting through the season" threads that seem to find Tedesco and Milsaps so often.

So if AC's on a 400, and MA's on a 350, are the rest on 300's?

no doubt about that...mike doesn't quit, but not having the best around you and for you is worse than quitting sometimes

Good question. Luckily we have this nice clear shot of the bike without any other 450's around to block the view. Still hard to tell the engine size, though. I'm going to guess 350.

If we would have more journos like Matthes that seems to have the balls to ask the hard questions, maybe we would be forced to this nonsense speculating.

Dunno what the hell is going on, BUT damn impressive that the Alessi hasn't yet officially blamed the bike? WTF? I thought they where complaining a lot previously, but now we here jack. Dunno the reason for that, but that's impressive and cudos to Tony and Mike for that.

Still I haven't heard anything from that camp lately, so maybe this is the calm before the storm?

The bike was probably ok until someone took the shock apart with a leatherman and ported the head with a butterknife .

KTM could have made Mikes bike a 449cc motor and it would have still been"legal".

Jus sayin

I'm not sure but an industry insider Tony was the problem, they said he's crazy...
