Hey everyone,

I hope you are well and had a great new year!

I'm on here to ask some advice regarding my Can-am 250 1974. It seems to be turning so sharply and is extremely uncomfortable to ride. I have taken the front end off and noticed it has a steering cone rather taper bearing. Does anyone know the angle the forks should be sitting? Or do you think that perhaps the back shocks might be the issue 🤔 I'm in a bit of a pickle as the bikes older than I am, and it's definitely got me head scratching.

Any advice would honestly be super appreciated 👏

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day 🥰

P.s. I also have a youtube channel which shows me working on the bikes (I have 7 🙈, some classics too!) Im always after some help but also no pressure though if thats not your thing - https://www.youtube.com/@motoxmini

Byeeee ♥️

Copied from your post in Bike Builds and Old School Moto...You only need to post in one forum to get a response:

Look up Chris via his UK website and be ready with the cone part numbers cast into the parts and your shock length:

He should be able to help you.  The steering cones of that 1974 are adjustable and depending on the part numbers, you can get the steering angle you want between 25 and 31 degrees (below I copied in the fork angle guide). It is claimed that if you remove the adjustable steering cones and insert tapered bearings you will get 29 degrees but I have never tried and measured the angle.

Chris also has links to part suppliers and there are plenty of parts still available for Can-Ams...Good luck!

Thank you so much for your advice! I shall contact chris to get some advice if i can't figure out the ins and outs!

P.s. sorry for posting in different forums, I wasn't quite sure which one to pop it into 😓

The cones can be exchanged for different ones to change steering angles. They can also be rotated 180 degrees to create a different angle. They should be marked with the degree angle on the cone if I recall correctly.
