Of course we dont know what went on behind the scenes or how much work that bike needed BUT at Rd1 we finished like 11th or something. Flat tire in Charlotte, he had Pontiac in the bag and tipped over in a turn (while leading). He was up front in another race and crashed too. Dallas that year was a mudder, so he lost points there as well... IF he had had more time to prepare that year I believe without a doubt that he would have been champion in 97.

It was an awesome season though, 7 different winners. To bad Henry got hurt, if I remember right he broke his hand.

This is all true MJ and any one of those instances could have cost him the championship. I say Charlotte because i believe at the time he got the flat tire he was leading, after the flat he finished the race just inside the top 10? But the point lost in that race was enough to cost him the title.

I hope that there are a lot of folks watching these videos you are posting. You are doing a great job and a service.

Watch the lines these guys take in the corners. We may have gained power and speed with the 4 stroke, but, we lost a lot of technique when the 2 stroke was taken out of racing.

This is the #1 reason I want to see a 125 cc class again. The skills learned on that bike cannot be learned on any other scooter.

96, I'm 100% sure

because I had ESPN in '96, and in '97 SX it went to ESPN2 in my town (something my cable provider didn't have) so I missed the series.

Id love to see a 16 round 250f series, they can save the east/west thing for 125cc novice risers or something

and 100% wrong. What year was Mc on a Suzuki?

Like MrMJS, I've collected a lot of video from that time frame. I believe in '96 was when Alby had a nasty get off at Charlotte. And there was some mud to boot.

Sorry Hank...I think you were saying that Ryno broke his jaw in '96?

I was referring the race year. It was 1997.

I have a question... 1997, it was either, Indy, Pontiac, or Minni SX. (think it was Indy). Anyone have those races? They put Robbie Reynard on Steve Lamsons practice bike, he almost won his heat over MC and Emig, then was running great in the main until the bike blew a head gasket. Would love to see that.

I just remember Bailey, you could hear it in his voice, was in awe of how fast Robbie was hitting some corners. I think the quote is, "he just went thru that corner as fast as humanly possible" lol

Try Pontiac. I'm not sure. I was archiving that one not too long ago and I think I remember Reynard getting some love.

He was running the east coast 125's that year if I remember correct (seems like I remember him battling RC--unless that was in '98), so it should have been a west coast round. Would not have been on Lamson's bike since he was contract to Suzuki.
