Mark Regal

I'm just curious if Mark went back and listened to the archive of the phone call? If so I wonder how he thinks it went? He's got to know he didn't come across well. IMO I think the guy is very cool and a straight shooter but is way over emotional and when he talks defensively he comes off horribly. I for sure don't think the two interviews I've heard have done anything to help himself and more importantly they;'ve done nothing to help Kyle.

The guy in the back ground was K Watson and he was just trying to get the guy's attention, hell they put him on hold 3-4 times and came back and he didn't even know it.

I never met the guy and I'm sure he's a hard worker self made man and straight shooter, I'm just saying he did not help Kyle one bit .

I listen to talk radio all the time (politics etc) and a rambling man is nothing new and the pro's know how to take care of the situation without calling the man an asshole. You clip them, break in off the air, and explain how radio works whatever. K Watson just came off to me as more of a jerk than people are saying Mark is, thats all. Sure Watson was trying to get his attention but Mark was telling a story. Watson just came off as some dumb ass californian surfer boy. I do want more off it though. (dude, fer sure, it was gnarly) STFU

I never met the man either but my kid raced against Kyle years ago in Michigan (by the way we got beat by his sister Casaundra let alone Kyle!)

I've heard campfire stories about the dad, the mom, the new dad etc. And of course now about all this bangin. Hell I need more!.

Finally listened to the whole thing, what a trip. The part where he backed up to concede that his daughter probably slept with a couple of people on the amateur tour was disturbing. I don't know who did what or said what with regard to the Valli divorce, and frankly I don't really care. But as often as he contradicted himself I'm certainly not believing his version of the events.

From everything I hear from people who know him well, Kyle is a really good kid and I hope he doesn't get cornholed in this industry on account of his handlers.

Kyle had no "handlers" when he was in California. Didn't you hear the part where he was sleeping on the couch in someone's love shack in Socal? Great ride huh?

Well obviously it wasn't all roses, I think everyone gets that and hell I'm sure his step dad is a great guy but the way all that came out on the radio show wasn't good.

but at the end of the day Kyle's results and the potential will net him what ever ride he gets.

I think you're overstating the impact of the show. We're not Stern or even really a good public access show.

Having said that I got a call from a prominent team manager last night who had just finished listening to the show on advice from his mechanics and absolutely loved it.

But not in a good way.

We'll get Mark back on and hopefully he'll be calmer.

He was referencing the TLD team at that point, right? Yes, I think Kyle being on the TLD team would have been a "great ride."

sounds like they may have lost another oppertunity at a ride.......

i think the simple fact is that their may have been rumours that Mark was a bit hard to deal with, but they were just rumours, he now put it on the net himself, that phone call made an impact,

i think if i was a team manager looking at hiring riders, and it came down to Regal and another kid, that phone call would play on your mind, most people do not like drama like that,

I'm sure most team managers have dealt with parents in the past, positive or negative, and probably will put a lot more consideration towards the rider and his attitude, more than the attitude of his parents. I think how Kyle goes around carrying himself will leave more of an impact than anything else. It would be one thing if he were a 15 or 16 year old and mom or dad had to be around. Kyle will continue to work hard and hopefully will do his talking on the track! There are only a few people that REALLY know what happened at VM...and I'm not one of them.

There were a lot of points that Marc was trying to make on the show.
Could he have done a better job, sure. Would it have been nice if he had an outline and was sitting at a desk and went line by line. you bet.
Did he get many of his facts out in a way that most people just listening to him could understand....no.
Jay was probably correct, it didn't help Kyle. On the other hand the more important question is did it hurt him.
Only time will tell. The kid is good, and he will only get better.
I can't speak for Marc or Kyle, but I can tell you as a parent of a racer that that they have worked unbelievably hard to get where they are. They are a tight family.
All of us here are on the net daily always posting and reading. They are not. Everything they hear is from people like those here on Vital, who see them at the track or the races, and ask, "hey I heard this or I heard that". It gets old.
Marc finally got tired of it and let it out.
I know I'd like to see Kyle ride well and be the best he can be, whatever team he is on.

Decoster has stated that he was not going to re-sign Mike Alessi under any circumstances, even if Mike had won the outdoor championship last year.

I was not bashing. I know that personality. They tend to get things done no matter the cost or social stigma. They tend to damn the PC b/s because they know no better or don't care..Sure I pissed some plp off but the results speak for themselves type of guy.

I think, or it is of my opin that he was rambling only because he was trying to be somewhat p/c.

That was the first time I listened to pulpmx. My only gripe with the show was the guy in the background shouting "asshole" to Mark like a little bitch. Mathes, throw him out. He makes your show look like some 12 year old after school fight.

I believe the next show with Mark will be great as long as Mathes doesn't try to censor him this is good stuff

Also Mathes you need more control of your show I think running your show is simply radio 101. Dont talk to "way gnarly dude" guy for advice.
Did you happen to hear Marc start off his last rant with "Call me an asshole if you want, but..."? Watson was making a [rather lame] joke to someone who is apparently a friend of his. I guess selective hearing isn't limited to just my kids.

Sorry, I know this thread is a bit old, but I just listened to the podcast with Mark Regal and had to comment.

I first have to say I've never met Mr. Regal, and know nothing about him other than what I heard directly from him on two different MX radio shows. I don't subscribe to any MX magazines and would call myself a very casual MX fan.

My impression of Mr. Regal is based on the two radio shows that I've heard him on and he seems very in your face, loud, argumentative, and seems to have trouble listening because he just wants to talk. With that said I didn't have any issues with the content of what he said (other than constantly repeating what he already covered). I appreciate his honesty, but just because someones honest doesn't mean they get a free pass.

I'm sure most of you work in the business world and sometimes how you present yourself and the attitude you bring to the table is just as important as the content you are presenting. It seems to me that Mr. Regal's problem is more about the way he presents himself and his in your face type of personality.

I also think he's "out there" and making such a plea because deep down he feels guilty about his son possibly not getting opportunities because of his personality or actions....regardless if they are right or wrong.

Matthes, I would suggest if you have Mr. Regal on your show again you find away to make it more of an interview than a platform for Mr. Regal to ramble. If he wants to ramble and repeat himself then he should get his own show. Love the show by the way!

Just my 2 cents....which means nothing to Mr. Regal, but it needed to be documented. ha ha
