Browsing FB marketplace like I do everyday looking for something to buy I came across a 2000 CR125 that was partially assembled and mostly in boxes. Cruised up to Land o Lakes, WI and picked it up for $500.
I completely stripped down the bike to evaluate the condition of everything- So far found some good and bad, but nothing surprising. Also looking online to see what is still available for these bike and what I’ll need to fix.
Good so far: frame, forks, cylinder, triple clamps, misc other parts.
Bad: Left side crankcase chain guide boss was broke off- There are unavailable new and the used ones are broke too (and they want $300+ for the crap). I dropped the case off at the welder to have that area built up.
The swingarm was wore through but not had enough that it can’t be fixed. Same issue, none available and those online are crap.
Not decided on the colors/design, but leaning toward black wheels or maybe gold, TX Race body, some bronze cerakote on the engine and other parts, Scalvini pipe..etc.

I just spent 6 months trying to find a good left side crankcase for under $500. Finally got lucky on eBay last week. Also have a swing arm that looks exactly the same!
I am sure I saw that case on eBay as I was looking last week- prices are ridiculous! Just got the case back- had that area built up with weld. Now just need to grind down, shape and then drill and tap. Lastly I’ll have the cases vapor blasted.
I am not too concerned about the swing arm, that area I can fix with a jb weld and cover with silver paint. Thankfully the are where the bearing is pressed in is not damaged-
There has been a lot going on with this build- cleaning, restoring and buying parts, parts and more parts.
Had a handful of parts Cerakoted. Things should start coming together soon.
The main issue is the bike came in pieces and as I put things back together I am finding what’s missing / worn and placing orders for new parts..the oddest things are missing.

I have a brand new TX race kit if you are still looking for one
Yes I am- I have decided on the TX Race kit for two reasons- A couple of the tank nuts are messed up and one of the radiator shroud frame mounts is broke off. Yes I can fix both, but I also like the looks of the TX race kit.
I sent you a message…
Beautiful build Brad can't wait to see it come together more and more. Also cool timing were both building 2000 CR's 🤘
Here is a bit of a photo dump. Some parts on the bike (such as the carb and foot pegs) will get replaced sometime down the road but installed for the time being or installed to mock up and make sure I have all the correct nuts, bolts, grommets, washers..etc.

I had this bike, new, in 2000. Loved it and rode / raced it hard for about 5 years. Wore it out. Switched to a 250F after. I loved this bike. Had the suspension done, PC pipe and silencer Lots of top ends and a couple bottom ends. Will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the last bike I had when my Dad and I were still riding together (he had a 2001 CR125). My Dad is still around, no tears please, haha. We just dont ride anymore...
Looking forward to having this come together. We did all of the work ourselves (except for the suspension) on both bikes. If you have a weird question, I may have a weird answer for you. Those radiators are made of tin foil.
I was actually a bit surprised with those radiators- they are not as bad as I was concerned they would be. I do have the stock radiators but one is a bit tweaked- someday down the road I may refurbish those.
I am trying to balance how many thousands I spend on this bike versus what’s really necessary…I replaced so many parts with new OEM- feels like I’ve bought nearly every new OEM part available. .. Considering the bike will likely never be ridden.
Nice CR build.
Thanks to KNIGHT for the good deal on the restyle kit! Temporarily bolted it up to see how it looks.
Have a number of parts on order- Still trying to decide which clutch and brake levers to go with-
I am currently at $4400 spent (including price of bike)..
In the process of building the stock hubs into new wheels (cerakote hubs, black spokes and warp rims) but that is going to take some time and the spokes I want are on back order. For now I bought this KKE brand- quality wise they look pretty decent (comparing to many other sets of wheels I have at home). Reviews are good from folks who own them (and not so good from people who don’t own them). Maybe I’ll leave them on and use the other set for a different build..who knows.,
I have also decided on graphics - these are from SKDA..
I still have some more OEM parts on order, gold chain, dirt tricks sprocket in chromatic…etc..
I am a big fan of OEM style levers. Not as blingy, but I find them the most consistent in terms of feel. Bike is looking great!
Yeah agreed. I was thinking the same. I have never had anything but OEM style levels on all my race bikes- but the aftermarket (ASV or etc) look cool!
Pit Row
Bike is looking great!
New OEM gas cap with hose….😆 The little things that bring joy..
Also a new OEM gas line with the OEM clamps…(yes not connected to the tank yet..) For whatever reason the first thing I always look at on rebuilds is the gas line..
Got the subframe bolted on along with the plastics...the subframe is a little bit tweaked so I will eventually need a different one..

How is profesh125 not dumping a minimum of 125 pages of wisdom on this topic right now.
If I decide to ride this bike- my hopes is I will run into him at Denmark Mx….(I believe he is a member same as me)..👍
Small update- Decalworks designing graphics based off the 2000 CR OEM look. Just have a few things left to buy (pipe, silencer, rear shock spring and stator) and it’ll be done. Hoping to find black Fri deals on these parts.
Here are the shroud graphics…2000 CR replica.
Cool update Brad.
Graphics going on- (least fav thing to do)…
Nice work! Mine is next in the queue, once I finish this 2000 KX125 to match my 2000 YZ125! These bikes are soo cool, and so much fun. Working on these bikes is so nice compared to my 2024 YZ250F that takes an entire day to do a top end on.
Original graphic design is cool on the restyle kit.
Well, this build is getting close to wrapping up. Waiting on a few more pieces- new OEM shock spring, stator and Scalvini pipe…
Silencer showed up today. “Would you look at that!”
