As stated does anyone remember or in fact ride the old Italian Husky 2 strokes?

Always had a massive thing for them and when a 2010 WR300 came up locally to me for next to no money i jumped on it, got it home and just admired it!

Issue is now I'm starting to get into it I'm realising parts are a slight issue in particular engine parts although this has loads of compression, and other specific parts.

I'm also struggling to get it running right it hadn't been ridden in 4 years and starts lovely but just seems to run either very rich or very lean I haven't figured out which. But it seems to have a bog when blipping the throttle just of idle and then blubbers when getting into the top end and doesn't seem to really open up.

Done weeks and weeks of research but recent information is hard to come by and as stated parts aren't cheap enough that I can just order everything and play with the carb.

Long story short what did people do to these bikes 15 years ago when they were riding and racing them? Anyone got any little tips or stories about this generation of bike?

Read thru caviar&cigarettes338 threads in the build section. Lots of early 2000s Husky info in those.

Still have my ‘09 WR300

Could never get it jetted just right

The squish clearance was way to big,

I took so much off the head to get it right I had to oblong the holes for the mounts.

Hindsight, probably would have been easier to put a domed piston in and mod the head for it.

I leaned the main until it pulled clean up top. Wound up at a 420 I think.

Got rid of the giant silencer/spark arrestor for a much shorter FMF powercore.

And race fuel

Such a beautiful looking machine 😍

Thinking of getting a jd jetting kit for mine as I don't have the patience to play with jetting it's always something I just can never get the enthusiasm to play with!

I seem to remember them having reeds from the factory that didn’t seal and jd jetting kit would fix up the jetting.

Crank seal/s might be leaking.

I had an 09 wr300 for a few years and it was a great bike.  I tried to improve upon it by adding a pro circuit pipe and Keihin PWK38 carb, but could never get it to run right afterwards.

Anyway, 2010 is the first year of the Ducati digital ignitions and they were notorious pieces of shit, so that may be your issue.  I would start by cleaning the carb and setting the jetting to stock before spending money on a new ignition.  Check out cafehusky.com for Italian Husky info.

Thanks for that I think mine might be an oddball as it doesn't have Ducati ignition?

I've tried several times to access cafe husky but when trying to open a new account it has some weird Latin captcha type thing

Hey buddy what’s the colour of the ignition. Black or red?

Mechanical stuff breaks or fails for a reason. I researched mine before purchase too.

1. Seized motor in fifteen hours: stock needle is very lean and reed block is suspect to enable air leaks. Jd jet kit and a Honda cr250 reed block gasket. About $100.

2. Tmx is shit. Jd jet kit from 1. Above.

3. Ducati ignition failure. Hope not but some have sourced earlier ignition from 20092010 models made by kokusan.

4. Ignition cover hole. You could silicone it shut but totally sealed systems begat condensation and corrosion too so pick your problem.

5. Hard to start. Oem pj is a 45. Jd kit is a 32.5. Bikes that are too rich are hard to start. There's also a technique and requirement to start these. Not gonna lie but you hafta be 6' or taller to make it work. Since kicker is high and fwd you hafta straddle the gas cap to position your leg correctly to get correct leverage on kicker. Using this technique with correct jetting results in one kick affairs for me. If I'm lazy and don't pay attention two kicks.

6. Engine mount bolts. Red lock tite and frequent checking during break in process. Easy.

So for $100 all problems solved except ignition but I'm not convinced it is a problem to solve?

Here’s a random post from a owner on thunpertalk. Seems like jd jetting kit and reed cage/gasket.
