Anyone grease/oil their gasket surfaces?

I saw a video of someone rebuilding a 2-stroke engine on Instagram. They applied oil or grease to the gasket surfaces. I'm about to rebuild my RM 125 (paper gaskets) and I'm curious if others do this. Is it advisable? Are there any downsides? What do you use on the surfaces?

Yes putting a thin coat of oil on the base gaskets will make them easier to get off at your next rebuild.

Any particular type of oil, grease or other?  I have the cases split and definitely don't want to do it twice because of a gasket leak.

I just use whatever waterproof grease I have around. Usually belay or maxima.
