Anyone in either class who doesn't start in the top ten at a normal track (i.e., not a mudder) has got a tall order to go to the front.

Wasn't a problem for 3 time world champion Dave Thorpe at Farleigh Castle British GP in 1986? . Got taken out by Merv Anstie in first corner, had to drag bike out of ropes, re-mounted and came from last to first in 3 laps, past the best 500cc GP riders in the world, Jobe, Malherbe etc.

Shorty's a really nice guy, but he's too comfortable with Texas ranch lifestyle , young family, friends around him. He doesn't seem to have the inner fire, drive to be a champion.
Come on Rob, you know you can not compare a novice backyard race from the 1980's to yesterday's race. Guess we wont be seeing any Shorty paitings anytime soon, eh?

Dungy kinda disappointed, but I think he'll progress as the season goes on.

I thought GL would have been in the mix but he seemed off the pace.

Josh Grant looked like a world-beater in the first moto. Second moto?

See above for Tommy Searle. Guy was haulin' in the first moto.

On the other hand...
Eli.

Davi. Seems like he can run with the best of them...when his heart is in it. Must be frustrating being a DM fan.

BT101. As he races himself into shape, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Reed. His ride in the second moto was pretty impressive given the one-lined nature of the track. That pass on Metty was incredible.

Metty. Guy was on the gas on the 450!

You can hardly call Farleigh Castle GP circuit a novice backyard track , or are you in MXA's camp who thought Thorpe was "the world's fastest novice"?
I'll willingly paint Shorty when he wins a championship and drops the 9-5 journeyman tag he's become too familiar with!

I thought Broc Hepler was going to do the nationals. Did he not find any support or is he going to just run a select few races?

I definitly have to go with the biggest disappointment being Tyla Rattray. Jeez, this guy was a GP champ? I mean both him and Izzi have no excuse. They get injured during SX season, sit it out to prepare for the Nats, and this is what you have to show for it?

450
Dungey for sure. Dung Beetle is the SX champ and last years 250 outdoor champ. He has to bring it more than that.
What happened with the Byrner?

Retired and attending a local community college. He might be on a Cernics ride for Steel City though.

Short's not a winner - and he never will be.

i'm baffled that he's been able to stay with honda for so long.

Pourcel. After his interview before the race about how "I was really the champ last year" "everbody knows I was the real champ" blah, blah, blah, he should have been ready to back it up with a 1-1 and not a 1-3 and lucky the rookie that smoked him in the 2nd moto layed it down in the 1st moto or it would have been a 2-3. He must "think" he's got the talent of James or something.
