I want more bark out of my bike

Im a weekend nobody

Wanting more snap

Should I be looking at high comp piston or is an ignition the next move?

2024 KX450? Call XPR, ask Chad about ECU and airbox mod for it.

My personal test bike for the year was the 24 KX450. Vortex ECU, custom mapping from XPR, modified airbox, PC pipe...ran pump and race fuel.

Bike was up around 8-8.5hp in mid-range, no internal engine mods.

It's just a cut-up stock airbox. Chad did it for me, he has a template he can provide or you might be able to send him your stock one. It's pretty easy to take off the bike and get just the piece that needs to be cut up. It's cut out a lot behind the ECU and on the one side. Side panel is drilled as well. Tell Chad I sent ya if you call him.

I can vouch. Exhaust, XPR Vortex & airbox cut up to increase air flow is all you need! My bike rips bad now. I have  10 maps to choose from on the vortex & i run it on the smoothest or "slowest" map most of the time out west. We don't have anything real deep out west so no need for a lot of bottom end. But maps 2 & 6 are torque maps which have the most bottom end. I ran map 2 out east but rode like an dipshit out there so can't really give you a good indicator of how that was.

granted i am 145 pounds so idk how much bark would be affected by an additional 100 pounds. I'll have my girlfriend hop on the back for a few laps hold on tight & report back.

I go 240lbs on a FC350 and the XPR Vortex from Chad is the single best mod, period.  I did drill out the sidepanel along with the 2 stroke cage , but Vortex made a world of difference.  I am 55+ so don't really want a 450 even though out east when track ripped I could use one.  The 350 gets me around and over most.

I did the same with my KTM 350. Made a huge difference. I added the FMF 4.1 pipe and kept the stock header. That helped too. I just with the pipe wasn't so $$$. Especially with going down and scratching the hell out of it. 😀

Another question: Are the Vortex much different that the GET/Athena or pretty much the same and personal preference on Mappping?

Vortex is an amazing ECU option.  In the hands of a proper tuner you can do some pretty amazing things.  With a modern four stroke you can do so much with the ECU and stay out of the engine.

24 KX450 with Vortex and PC pipe with airbox mods=ripper!
