While on the starting line for the first time. Remove your goggles and stare into the eyes of the guy on your left. Then spit on his boot.

I like to masturbate on the line, and see if I can finish before they drop the 30 second board. I even do this when I'm not racing.

Double up on your creatine tonight. On your bench press go heavy tomorrow morning before breakfast. Good luck and have fun.

When you crash or get passed, don't get frustrated. Just remember everyone has a first race at some point, and you would rather it be a good memory of having fun than one of frustration.

Hold your lines, race your competitors (don't just pull over and let them by the moment someone roles up behind you) and have fun.

But MOST importantly:

1. Rev your bike alot in the pits
2. Warm it up for like half an hour while pretending to tinker with it and tune it up, because of course you have to have it set up just perfect.
3. Pull off at least 2 tear offs on the starting line cuz you KNOW you have the holeshot, won't be needing any stinkin tear offs.
4. Gear MUST match, otherwise as Nick Wey famously said "You can't win if you don't look good."
5. In practice, just pin it down the straight aways, and when you get to technical sections, pretend to be checking out the lines. Feel free to sit on the lip of the largest jump just eyeing it (this is especially effective if no one in your class is jumping it).
6. Sign up with the number 1, they'll know why soon enough.
7. Don't forget plenty of posters for you autograph line.
8. When you come back from practice, yell something at your mechanic, throw the bike down and storm off like the bike isn't good enough for you.
9. Don't forget to set up a little fence around your pits so the fans will let you work (but also be nice and set up a clock with the times you will be signing autographs)

10. Whatever you do, don't do this:

I would say start all the way to the outside , let everyone get through the first turn ahead of you and then just pick them off at your own pace. You'll most likely end up finishing where you would if you dive right in the middle of the first turn chaos. But I won't tell you to do that because when the gate drops, your brain temporarily disconnects itself and the chances of doing something stupid go up several hundred percent. Been there, crashed that.....

Just go have fun and don't take it too serious. And hold your line dammit.
I have to agree with newmann, just let the gate fall and go out and ride, your first race is about getting experience not winning.

if not number 420 or 1, the number 69 is a must.

Always..Always...look down at the engine if you start to fade like cheap paint..then pull to the side of the track..drop the bike on it's side & throw both hands in the air!! .. (tears are optional) they always seal the deal on a stink race.!!

When you're lined up on the starting gate, hug all the other guys in your race. By the time they realize what the hell you're doing the gate would've dropped and you'll have 1/2 lap lead..........and dont forget to do drugs.

If youve put in some prep time you should be fine- Forget about everyone else just hit your marks over and over as best you can and before you know it the race will be over and you will have hit your goal (if your realistic with yourself)...my opinion

Thats cool, to me finishing position doesnt matter, for your first race, the real question is did you have fun?

the next time you race or practice , practice your starts

Way to go man.

My first race I got lapped 3 times and ran over some poor kids leg, all while crashing about 2-3 times per lap, so you did awesome by my standards. You never forget your first.

No go practice those starts.

"Feel free to sit on the lip of the largest jump just eyeing it (this is especially effective if no one in your class is jumping it)." Classic!
