James Stewart's White and Black 1970 Chevelle was on the auction block in Zephyrhills Florida this afternoon. The winner just paid $35,000 for the car but didn't want the autographed jersey and hat that came with it. Must not be a Bubba fan?
Now my Brother, who has always been a fan and defender of Bubba, is pissed off beyond description. He said Big James was the most disrespectful, condescending asshole he has ever met. No wonder the guy that bought the car didn't want Bubba's jersey.

It is a sweet car. They were advertising it as being on MTV's Cribs so some of you probably know the car. Maybe he was disappointed in the auction price. My Brother doesn't get offended easily and he wouldn't have been upset if Big James just said "I can't sell it". He was way beyond pissed, as mad as I've ever seen him.

I met James Sr. 2 years ago, he didn't know me from a hole in the wall, was a very nice, courteous guy.
Your story is gay.

This wasn't posted as a anti-Bubba rant. My brother didn't talk to Big James until after my original post. My Brother is a nice guy and knows his way around those auctions. He knows how to approach people so I don't know what happened. He was really insulted by the way Big James spoke to him.

Scott I did not look at all the chevelles but some were $ 100,000 + fake SS's go for $ 40,000. A decent real SS is $ 60,000+. I have had muscle/ pony cars all my life and 70 chevelles are becoming the car to have.
You really, really have to know what to look for with those cars. Matching number, tires, frame off etc.
Why is everyone automatically defending James Sr? Maybe he did come off as out of line ..who knows[/quote:2alejxm3][/quote:2alejxm3]
I never mentioned James Sr. I was just talking about the chevelle.

Or maybe he didn't...who knows?
Who's [i:1l5efd2c]everyone[/i:1l5efd2c] that's defending James Sr? It seems about even.

I know he was out of line, I just don't know why. Big James is a nice guy from what I've heard but he's not above having a bad day. I was talking to my Brother just before he asked about the jersey and he was in a great mood. He thought is was cool that James' car was at the auction. We've been to a lot of races together and he never bothers the riders for autographs or stuff like that.

Wow, sounds like the cash cow is running low, and he got pissy.
70 Chevelles are almost a dime a dozen anyway. 35K ? Better have been a nice car. If it was really that nice it would be at a bigger auction like Barret Jackson etc.[/quote:2e70i23e]
Not really dime a dozen when you figure the car probably sold for 3500 or 3800 brand new, thats a pretty common price for a nice non-original, restored car.if that was a matching numbers, restored car, it would have sold for alot more. Alot of people dont like to go thru barret jackson because of the high seller fees.

if that was the case he'd sell his bentley not a cheap chevelle...

actually there was right around 289,000 total with about 53,000 of them being ss's sold, , if the chevelle was a dime a dozen , Take a look at the 69 camaro with around 243,000 of them sold. pretty close in comparision as far as sales.

Maybe I'm missing your point here. Exactly what are you saying?
and why is "having a bad day" a justifiable exuse for treating a fan like shit? its not. part of being a highly paid public figure such as an athelete, is that you have to put on that smile whenever youre in public. and since Sr has made himself a part of the show...he's every bit as responsible for his public image as bubba is. now i dont think he was being out of line at all in this case, but if he was, having a bad day isnt a viable excuse.
and why exactly are some of you taking joy in bubba selling this car? none of you have a clue about his financial status but its seems that IF he was in any trouble, you'd be taking joy in it. par for the course i guess.
haters.
Without being a true numbers matching SS car I'd be pretty happy with that amount.

I hear ya there, But a good solid, nicely restored,non-original without all the high dollar stuff will bring 35k. now you take the high dollar paint, and interior, wheels and tires that was on that car.The buyer got a steal deal, JS should have sold it somewhere else and just waited for the right buyer and not at any auction.

[color=#0000FF:33pcwbq0]Exactly. A buddy of mine sold a non-numbers matching GTO for $35G right here in AZ about a week before Barrett-Jackson. It was nice, but not all that. It was a frame-up, but not show-quality. Now, I don't have a clue what the Chevelle looks like, but 2 things come to mind. #1 if it was, in fact, a gift from Red Bull, this may help put to rest some of the rumors regarding the Monster deal. #2 Auctions tend to cater to collectors. Most collectors are looking for a certain style car, & the more "original" looking cars tend to bring in the most $$. If the car had non-original style paint (even if it was a $10G paint job), after-market wheels, non-original looking upholstery, etc, then it's not as likely to pull the higher $$. Like ps69 says, they probably could have gotten more $$ going a different route...maybe even eBay. Big James could even have been sore that the extras were snubbed more than the auction price, but who knows?...//TJ[/color:33pcwbq0]
