A jet pilot is what they needed, he could have hovered over the dude and everyone would have know it was a old as slow pro form the early 80's, i hate those slow as vinatge racers that get back on a modern track and cause problems

Damn, now you guys are going on about the watering of the track??? What wont you all bitch about? If you see a guy watering and you thinks its dangerous, get the f off the track!! Pretty simple.. If youy think its ok, then stay out. You guys make it sound like Glen Helen is the only track that does any of this..

When I was there two weeks ago taking pics of that jump, plenty of guys stopped on top of it. They didn't have bike problem they just wanted to check out the guys who were clearing it.

Why dont the pros all pull their cash and just rent out a track for the day? Equip it with flaggers, and this doesn't happen.

Ping was definitely correct when he said the poor guy got KO'd. Man all that watering and not a flagger insight. Sad shame, really.

Having the pro's ride a different day is going to solve the problem?

Now you're just being silly.

Were they stopped right where this guy was? Why should they have to rent a track? They are a big reason some guys go to a certain track.

Trip, I must respectfully, completely disagree. Coming from a guy who lost half a season due to coming around one lap dry and the next slick (not at GH) water causing me to eat shit, there was no time to "slow down" It was over before I woke up coo coo for cocao puffs. You don't know when they decide to water like that..... ALL tracks shouldn't do that, not just GH. It's freaking stupid. If you are maybe have a guy at the finish line waving a green flag or something so yo know fresh water is somewhere....... It isn;t dangerous for just pros but all riders.

I love how you stick up for GH, I like GH, it is a great track but safety obviously isn't number one priority.

They may have stopped on top of it but not in the middle of it! jeez dude! Blink Are flaggers really too much to ask for? Now the pros are prima donnas? What about the guy that nearly got his head taken off? you think he would have like a flagger there? Like I said before, he IS LUCKY it was a pro, any less rider may have jumped right into his back. They were both lucky. I don't care what track was, that video could have been from Dubai and I would say the same things...

hehehe.

How about waving a yellow flag just before they are putting fresh water on the track? Holy crap. I am so smart, you can call me "captain obvious". I think the yellow flag means "caution" but i am not sure.

Glen Helen's biggest problem appears to be letting riders on the track while they are watering, thus minimizing the amount of workers that would have the ablility to flag properly as well as the change in track conditions from lap to lap from the water.

What did the release form say about providing flaggers on practice days? If it says that there will not be flaggers on practice days, then there you have it. You all know that the track has blind jumps and is apparently is notorius for not having enough flaggers where they need them, beware of same!

Allowing vastly different levels and size of riders on the track at the same time is just nuts.

If nobody does anything differently than the problems will continue, it's not that hard to figure out.

Hard to tell exactly where that guy was stopped. It's maybe 12 feet wide up top. Depending on where 101 took off from. I posted pics last week of the dip/hole in the middle of the jump. So if 101 took off from the outside he could of easily of hit the guy if the guy was on the outside. I wasn't there, but was there last week and a guy set his bike on the outside edge and some of the guys were coming close to it avoiding the dip on the take off.

I'm all for flagger, never said I was against them. Just saying guys ride Glen Helen knowing what it is. Shouldn't really be a shock to anyone.

And that Dubai track? Well it was a secret..way to blow it...

Why should they have to rent a track?? Seriously??

Well just off the top of my head, so they don't have to ride around squids who don't know how to hold their line?

Riding with the same caliber riders?

Trusting all the other riders on the track, unless its 338?

It's their livelyhood, do all they can to protect themselves?

Tracks don't list which pro is going to be there. You can go to almost any track out here anyday of the week and there is a very high chance you will see some pros.

Having only experienced practice in Europe that video was pretty shocking to me. Safety didn't seem to count for anything there. In a land crawling with lawyers, if that is normal, your sport is doomed.

I don't know about any of you guys but after I crashed I was more freaked out about getting hit then I was about the actual crash. Especially on a jump, don't sit there and adjust your clutch lever before you get going again. Get off the track, check out the damage and keep going at that point or fix your bike. I have ridden at plenty of places with out flaggers and its in the back of your mind until a close call like that happens. Lucky BT was safe and hopefully so was the other guy.

Yes,
step one: get off the track or make darned sure oncoming riders can see you and the bike. Make yourself tall and wave your hands or something. Of course, as somebody pointed out, he might have been dazed from a crash. That's when a sober flagger comes in handy.

serious question here: Somebody above suggests getting off the track and leaving the bike on the track. I'm not really supposed to leave my bike there for the next guy to wad up on, am I? I guess each incident is unique...

I broke my right foot (navicular) at Ace's blind finish jump back in '05. No flaggers. The bike ended up stuffed under a chain link fence. Watching for traffic, I pulled it out and got us off the track. Then, after the adrenaline subsided, I realized I was hurt. When I tried to kick the 300, I knew the foot was broken.
Don't let me hijack this into a post-op infection thread.

I hate being stopped on the track.

The guy stopped on top of the hill caused that. You never stop in a blind spot on a hot track and you move off the track as fast as possible when you crash in a blind spot. If you can't get your bike off the track, and there are no flaggers, you should try to warn oncoming traffic of the downed bike, if you are capable.

How do you crash on top of the hill? And if he did crash up there, he needed to get out of the main line before he remounted his bike. On a track with no flaggers, you have to be your own flagger sometimes, and if there was too much traffic to pick up the bike and get it out of the way, he needed to warn oncoming traffic. The guy is a dumb ass.
