Edit 3/14/2024: Many manufacturers have models in transition, with some helmets of the same model having the ECE 22.05 sticker and others with the ECE 22.06 sticker. These can be different designs with the same model name. Please check the information on the helmet! European law now  prohibits the sale of any motorcycle helmet without the ECE 22.06 rating but enforcement is allowing retailers to sell inventory received before January 4, 2024. I recommend asking the seller which rating is on the helmet as a condition of sale. European models can be different than other markets with the same model name.

I do not plan to update the list after 3/14/2024. Manufacturers not on this list have ECE 22.06 rated helmets but do not yet claim it for reasons just mentioned.

Motocross helmets certified to ECE 22.06, to the best of my knowledge: Last updated 3/14/2024:

6D: ATR-2 (2024, not 2023 model)

Airoh: Aviator 3

Alpinestars: 2024 M10, 2024 SM5 (not the 2023 models)

Bilt: 2024 AX-1

Fly: Formula S Carbon (only S Carbon 2024)

Fox: V1, 2024 V3, 2024 V3 RS

FXR: 2024 Helium

Just1: J22 Carbon (some models only)

Klim: F3 Pro, F3 Carbon (not regular F3)

Leatt: 9.5 Carbon, 8.5, 7.5

LS2: X-Force Carbon, X-Force, COZ

Moose Racing: 2024 FI Deceit

Shoei: VFX-WR 06 (not regular VFX, appears to be in Europe only at last update)

Shot Racegear: Comp, Core, Furious, Pulse, Race

If you know of other helmets with the ECE 22.06 certification, please post it with a link to the manufacturer's claim explicitly stating 22.06.

This standard was drafted in September 2019 and approved in March 2020 to become law January 4, 2024 for all motorcycle helmets sold in the European Union. Among the updates are a "low-speed" impact performance requirement - this is the only off-road certification with such a requirement. A summary of the updates can be found here with the complete draft hereOff-road helmets with this certification have been available since September 2020.

Airoh Aviator 3. The new standard has increased the weight of several helmets.

The FIM announced their new off road race helmet homologation requirements. Many are shared with the ECE 22.06 certification.

https://www.cyclenews.com/2022/12/article/fim-racing-helmet-homologation-phase-2-launched/

The technical presentation link at the end of the article compares standards and lists all road race helmets currently homologated. Hopefully there will be an off road list once helmets are homologated.

Interesting. I will have to keep an eye on this. I am in the market for a new helmet. My Leatt is too damn loud.

The Shoei VFX-WR and the all new Fox V3 and V3 RS models are also ECE 2206 certified.

According to the Fox website, the V3 is not:

Regarding the Shoei, please post a link with the manufacturer's claim and I will update the list.

You are referring to the old V3 RS model, the new ones are not there yet, but are part of the 24 collection that got launched 2 days ago. A simple Google attempt will give you all the anwsers you are asking for if you feel you need to validate. If you don’t want to update the list it’s fine for me.

I didn't see anything on Fox's website about it. but You could add it with a disclaimer stating the 2024 V3 will be in the group . https://enduro21.com/en/products-reviews/latest/quick-look-new-fox-v3rs…;

I saw other results come up in my google search that also state the  ECE 22.06 rating. But last I checked it was not for sale yet, stating Fall of 2023 was when it will be available.

Does anyone know why the vfx-wr is ece2206 certified but the vfx-evo is not..? It's the same helmet lol. Is it just that they test one and not the other? This confuses me.

Thanks for the source link. This list will only be updated with a manufacturer’s published claim or even a photo of the documentation on the helmet.

The purpose of this post is to be a resource when buying a helmet. I don’t want to confuse anyone into buying a current or older uncertified helmet just because the not-yet-available model is certified. Some manufacturers are keeping the model names the same with the older units not certified. Hopefully this list will help clarify which do not have the 22.06 certification.

Beware, every retail website I’ve seen with a 22.06 search parameter gives false positives. If the manufacturer does not claim it, and at the very least anyone with a phone in their pocket connected to the internet can’t post a photo of the helmet… I’d rather be slow than wrong. Even when JT$ posted that the 2024 Fly Formula S Carbon would be certified, I waited for the documentation to be published before listing it. The helmet either has the sticker or it does not!

Please keep posting the source links so we can watch for the manufacturer's published claim.

If there is not an year range, and the helmet names stay the same. Should people assume that a particular model helmet has been ECE 22.06 rated since the rating was published?  Like the V1 and Leatt Helmets ?

The 2024+ SM10 also includes an EJECT removal system with the helmet .  It was NOT included with the older versions.

It's actually a little different on the shell side of things. The VFX-WR was developed for the world market and doesn't pass the Snell test in the US, it's a shell meant to pass ECE regulations.

If a brand has the option between a Snell-certified helmet and a separate ECE-certified helmet, then I'm taking the ECE one.

Good to know! I assumed the design was different somehow.

There still isn't a helmet certified to both ECE 22.06 and Snell 2020D!

Shoei VFX-WR 06 ECE 22.06 certification documented here: https://www.shoei-europe.com/products/vfx-wr/

Snell certification documented here: https://smf.org/certlist/std_M2020D.php (the EVO is listed, the WR 06 is not)

The same model name is is a major source of confusion. 6D-ATR 2 is a good example because you can go to the 6D website and buy one (latest model) that has the certification and buy another one that doesn't. And as mentioned above and shown with the certifications, the Shoei VFX-WR 06 is a different design from the VFX-EVO.

Leatt's were certified in the v21 models and later. Airoh's were early 2021... Klim was over a year ago... Fox published the V1 certification earlier this year... the rest of them I didn't see until this year. But I'm not any authority, I'm just relaying published info. This doesn't mean you can't find another one with the sticker.

Check the info on the helmet. Either from the manufacturer's published info or from a photo. Some retailers' photos will be clear enough to show it. And some of them will categorize them as ECE 22.06 but then their own photos plus the manufacturer's photos clearly show 22.05 - not 22.06!

Yes that was why I was asking about the year. Since some of the models on Your list have a year when they started  to be ECE22.06 and some do not.   It could help people avoid buying a helmet online that is not ECE 22.06  if  the site has it incorrectly listed as that, but its a closeout helmet or the decal is not visible in the photos. Or be able to figure out if their current helmet  could be ECE 22.06 or not .  A custom paint job or damaged decal might make it hard to check an existing Helmet. But You said its more for new Helmet buyers anyway..

I guess its another  reason to go and buy a helmet in person.  Then physically check the helmet.

I've found many mistakes on specs on distributor websites. My rep will vouch for me . I think he regrets  asking me to let him know about anything I notice LOL . A lot of dealer sites will just have that info copied and pasted. So I think its an honest mistake by most of the online retailers that have  listed the spec by mistake.

I spend a lot of time searching out info on Helmets. Reading and watching videos about why they do certain things. So I'll bookmark this thread if possible to add to my database of helmets I can sleep well after selling. Thank You very much for taking the list seriously !

Wanted to add this response from 6D to my question of our older 2205 helmets vs the newer 2206.

You should not be concerned about the ECE 2205 vs ECE 2206 certification on your 6D. The ECE 2206 certification followed closely the FIM 01 competition standard for closed course road racing in Europe established in 2015 or 2016, I don’t recall exactly without looking it up. Unfortunately, the new 2206 standard requires the helmet to be stiffer and manage a higher velocity impact threshold of 8.2 m/sec vs 7.5 m/sec in the ECE 2205. All of the other testing folded into the 2206 standard was effectively driven by 6D’s entry into the market 11 years ago with technology to address low-threshold energy impacts and angular acceleration mitigation. The benefits of MIPs for angular impacts was also a driver to these changes in the interest of requiring manufacturers build better and safer helmets.

Regarding the 2205 vs. 2206 ATR-2, there was a minor adjustment to the shell layup in the 2206 ATR-2, and this was to ensure best performance at 8.2 m/sec. (which is too high for best overall safety in our opinion, but that gets very complex and technical and is too much to address here). This change is now law, and we are required to comply as is everyone else. Anyway, the change was very minor, and you are every bit as safe in your 2205 ATR-2 as you would be in the 2206 version. You might find that odd, but the best way to understand this is to closely study some of the other brands of helmets that offered small and compact helmets shells with very light weight in 2205 certification, unlike a 6D, they have had to make completely new helmets to pass the new standards. We did not. You can trust you are in a very safe helmet in any 6D product.

The Leatt helmet looks like an MX Helmet and an extinct short nose bear had a baby.

Do you have a source by any means. I’m looking to replace my old shoei vfx. And the vfx-wr’s are on a good discout while the vfx-wr 06 is still at full msrp more or less. But i can’t find what has been updated on the 06. Price difference is like €200

I've started to see and hear about some 2025 offerings and  there are some new MX helmets and some remodeled that are now 22.06 that were not before.   Around August/September  is when they will be available. So if You are going to be shopping for helmets for Christmas or fall time, You might just have some  more options to consider.

The newer standards focused more on the chin bar and rotational energy reduction  than the past. So there could have been some changes made to the shell to pass that test. Even if they are not visible.   It could also be the same exact shell , just re tested and the older helmets  could be the same , just with different stickers.

I would contact Shoei or a Shoei rep to ask what they did to the new helmet. Ask if there have been any changes made to it other than it passing the new test standards.  It is very common to discount the previous years colorways. Sometimes its just a graphic change and You get the same helmet.
