Shimoda’s hesitation to change

What if someone told you that you might (yes, only MIGHT) be more successful at your job, but you have to change your life to the point you are uncomfortable with it.
Of course, you MIGHT be less successful than you already are too..

Still don’t understand??

I know exactly ZERO successful people who have made comfort a priority in business or whatever else they are "successful" in.

What's the definition of insanity?

The other thing to consider, most of us have 20-60 years to be successful at our jobs, a motocross racer has 10 years or less.  So given that, would you be willing to take more extreme measures to be successful if you only had 10 years to get it done?

I do think Honda missed the mark on bike setup. Hymas and Shimoda both have struggled initially and both made comments about the bike. Speculating of course but maybe these bikes were setup with Hunter and Jett’s settings. We know from Keefer riding their bikes he said that Jett’s 450 was not like most bikes.

This all means nothing because Hymas just won a moto and Joe is doing what he’s done every season.

On an episode of SML Show during Supercross, he said he wasn't very good with initial bike set up. He mentioned at PC, Hot Sauce did the initial set up, then the riders just had to tweak things to their liking, but since the Honda was a completely new bike from the one he rode at Geico, his old settings didn't work so they had to start from ground zero and he was struggling.

Does no-one else notice how much he rides with his elbows down, I've never seen a pro ride like that, not even J-Law was as bad as that. Obviously I'm no person to be criticising him, but I think he could learn a thing or two about technique from Jett if nothing else.

I appreciate this perspective but at the same time believe you need to invest in yourself.

This in it of itself is the crux of the “Shimoda situation”.

Does he take a chance, go a different training regiment with the hope that it’s worked for others so it may work for him or stay the course and keep plugging away?

AC9 the past few years. Maybe Jo picked up some bad habits training with him 😂

Look at the late WEC enduro rider Mika Ahola, he ran with simular elbows.

Became world champion a couple of times before he passed away.

Define ‘Succesful’.

Succesful is subjective. Jo is already successful in his chosen career. He’s in the top 1% in the world.

perhaps that is enough for him? Enough for him to not want to do anything else.

Fair point, BUT when you're on Factory Honda and have proven you have the speed to win, but only at the end of the series, I'd say it's time to search for something to be more consistent.

If he's "fine" with what's going on right now, after it's been the same year after year, I'm not sure they'll be renewing that contract.
