bobby397 You do realize that SoCAL is one of the biggest markets in the world for dirt bikes? It doesn't make sense to not have a national here.

i do realize that, but when a market gets big enough, you expand! with so much (most of the talent) talent coming from the east coast, why not drop of some loose baggage and host a professional event else where?
Since when did expanding mean leave the biggest market? What the HELL are you talking about?

What did you have against GH? What wasn't professional about GH?Hell I think you guys should have a national to.

Barber's sounds spicy. Enticing.

I do know - that about five years ago - or more, there was a definite plan at the

AMA that any future Nationals locations should have more available accoutrements.

Infrastructure, location, accessibility - all important factors.

Obviously, money, politics and connections comes into play.............

such is life.

But Barbers def sounds ripe - can't wait.

Barber is one of if not the nicest racing facility in the US. The area around the track is plenty hilly and like DC said those guys never do anything second rate.

Its to bad that its going to be at Barber, they should hold it at Monster Mt.!!! Barber does seem like the place that they are going to have it at.

I live in between Barber and Millcreek and I don't understand. Why build a new track with Barber when the McWilliams family already has a national caliber race track. They hold a 4-wheeler national already. I know the facility would need upgrades, but I am sure they would perform whatever upgrades needed in order to get a national.

Haven't ever been to Barber, but sounds about perfect as far as logistics go. Monster Mtn is a really NICE track and has a ton of room, but it is a good ways away from anything and not too close to an interstate.

Barbe, Monster, Millcreek, or AMP MX....hell...any of them will be better for us SE people than GH. So bring it on....to any of them!!
I live about 45 minutes from Monster and I've been to Red Bud. The roads around Monster are better than the ones to Red Bud and a lot closer to an actual real interstate. And you people that mention there is nothing to do, could you please tell me what there is to do in Buchanan, MI? I haven't found much to do there myself..

We have been speaking with Alan too. He is a quality promoter and is also very interested in any future races that might be in the southeast. The fact that Barber wants to build a motocross track on a state-of-the-art facility is a great step forward for the sport, no matter which races they end up holding. And getting a race in the SE in 2011 is a top priority.

Forget about MIllcreek. If Barber builds a track it will be top notch.

I just hate to see a national go to a guy that not only doesn't own the land but he is not core to the sport. When 5 miles further down the road there is a well known track that needs a few upgrades actualy owned by a MX family.

It is Walmart vs. the Little man. Barber got all his money from the dairy products and they definitely have a top notch facility. It just makes more sense to go with an MX family. Millcreek is not far from Birmingham or the interstate.

Mill Creek is definitely a great track. I live in Leeds and ride there all the time. But I do think that Barber's has got what it takes to create more national attention to the sport. I wouldn't be opposed to either track having a national.

In fact, the picture under my name was taken at Mill Creek.

Is this the McWilliams that also ran Lake Whitney, if so I can see why they would not get a national.

It's $400.00 plus to go to a track day at Barber for road bikes. This does not include fuel tires and food.

You wanna go ride Millcreek? $20.00 a day.

Which do you think will have more fan friendly pricing?

Barber is a super nice guy and everyone there is polite. They are only looking to make their facility more profitable. Millcreek is MX!

Might as well throw a dome over the place and shorten the tracks and let's put in bigger jumps for the fans. Add some pyrotechnics and stadium seating.

Well,

I have been to Red Bud the last two years and find the attendees an excellent way to stay entertained.

How many ways can people say "Reddddddddd Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud"?

Infinite, my friend.

Being from the Southeast, I find the way they talk somewhat amusing in itself.

Red bud 10 or 20 years ago was fun! Red Bud these days watered down and not worth the drive.

The whole place used to be like the adult only campground yet wilder. Now they confiscate your pickles because you might make a Maltave cocktail and burn some stuff.

I hear that Unadilla used to be awesome. Now it is like a day at the park. We are pussing out our sport. Selling out for dollars. This situation with Barber is a perfect example. There is already an awesome track just a little further down the road. Did DC go there? Nope!

They want the beautiful landscaping and multi million dollar facility that Barber offers not the Grass roots real MX family that Millcreek offers. Besides history this is about selling out our sport for big business.

Business is business. If you build it they will come? I'm just glad that they are looking to have a national in the SE. Will the fans really come out. Look at the Jax SX race. Pretty poor turn out for 2 years. Sure didn't seem like many people that went to the ATL Sx drove down.

Don't take my comment the wrong way. Monster is in my top 3 SE tracks, and would probably be #1, if I didn't have a personal tie to AMP MX. I have also been to Red Bud, Southwick, Mt. Morris, Troy and on and on!! You are right 100%!! Most of the outdoor tracks are not easily accessible, and in all reality, Monster is more so than some others. But they are in it out of seniority and history...and they are all great tracks/facilities. My comparison was solely based on the differences between Monster and Barber. As stated, Monster is awesome....but to be totally honest...I think a track built by Barnett/Bates, at a world class facility like Barber, would only be good for the sport. Especially the outdoors.

Time will tell.

BTW - neysbo ....just curious as to what you are getting at with your statement about McWilliams and Whitney. Not on either side, just curious. I thought they have been doing good with Whitney??? I haven't been there though...so I don't know for sure. I know the McWilliams family does a good job here in the SE.

It likely will be another "fake-o-cross" track. BTW, what is the heat index like that time of year?
That's what I thought when I first approached it, but I went and talked to some of the people that worked there and found out that it was just the beginning part. All of the woods behind it (nice size rolling hills) will also be the track. I was thrilled to hear this. Mr. Barber will truly go to every extent possible to make this the best track there is.

And for everyone speaking about Monster, you for sure can't find dirt better than monster or a track, but if Mr. Barber can have a track built just as good if not better that's right off the interstate with all the accommodations and facilities, then you can't beat it. And if you haven't ridden Monster, you need to do so.
