Apparently some of you on here don't have very good depth perception and don't know distances! In that pic the racer is between 25 and 30 feet from the tractor NOT 50 feet. If said racer had something happen to make him veer towards tractor at 50plus mph he'd be hitting tractor in 1 second and we'd be having a very real conversation about this stupidity!

Pythagorean Theorem, bro

For those who measure in laying pipe, that managers tower was one quarter stick...or so off the track

Alright, carry on.

I’m no lawyer, but I’d rather defend something 5’ off of the track and stationary not being negligent than something 30’ out on the track and moving.

Seems to be a lack of perspective in this thread. Many of you claiming the tractor is ON the race track. Well, that logic only applies if you think that section of the track all of a sudden is like 300 FEET WIDE!

I'm watching The Racerx best damn post race show and at the 3 minute 30 second mark riders are FLYING by this odd 2 story structure made of some sort of steel with people perched on it...and its like FIVE FEET OFF THE TRACK! Thats a big ouchie if a rider gets out of control and slams it. Wheres the outrage?

How about all the trees at Washougal that lie just off the track? Wood is hard! (ask my wife). Those trees dont move at all when a rider hits them. Some tracks i see they like to pretend if they wrap an old mattress around the tree and secure it with magic duct tape it will be "safe". Wheres the outrage for trees along the track?

Sometimes I think because you guys cant do anything about Will, commercials during the broadcast etc. etc., it feels good to delve into the Outragezone, ORNE, and blame some poor guy who got paid with a hotdog and a free t-shirt to run the tillager for the day.

Those things You listed are known dangers though.  Who expects to see a piece of equipment on a track?

Trees are not growing mid moto, the structures around the track are not moving around either. While I think it would be good to have a safe area to run off the sides of a track. It is not possible at all tracks and is an accepted danger when You start riding.

If they let the riders know that there would be a tractor there towards the end of the moto, than You could put it into the same category as the trees and tower. I have no idea if the riders knew or not.

Photos and video do not always give an accurate idea of reality . Maybe the angle of the video makes it look more like more of an issue than it is.

So if the tractor became stationary whenever bikes are going by distance would not matter?

no, i think the point he's making is that it's going to be way harder to argue about something that is physically ON the racing surface.

Are there any threads complaining about this for the past 20 years they've been doing it or are we only outraged because that's the way of the world in 2024?

Bunch of Karens in here,

Why postpone the race for lightning when you keep all the riders on the line, whats the difference if they are on the track racing or sitting still on the line?

Outrage!!!

If the tracks were 1/8 mile flat ovals with padded walls, everyone here would still find something to be outraged about.  Something must be in the air, water, or something.  There is no way this many people could become this..  I don't even know what you call it, but it is freaking sad and toxic.

Also, yes, If I was riding close to something, I’d much rather it be not moving. That’s just common sense.
