Educate me on Sprinter Van conversion pricing...

I've never been in the market for one but I know there was a huge Sprinter van boom during covid and like other cars the pricing went through the roof.  If a recession is looming and things like boats, RVs, toys, and sprinters go on sale, I'm wondering how much these things would go for in a normal market.  I'm seeing a lot of nice newer 4x4 Diesel vans with nice add ons listed in the 150K range.  Do you think they'll continue getting this money for these things?  How inflated do you think these things are from a normal non-covid, non-shortage market?  Sorry for the FB links but I only have an account to use marketplace:

No kidding, I'm just wondering if these things will sell closer to 100K or slightly less when the dust settles.  The travel van boom has been going nuts but I think it will slow down very soon and things might go on sale when people are sitting on these 120K vehicles they drive a few times a year.

i have no info on if they will hold price or if any of those you posted are a good buy... but when i went to Moab mountain biking last year you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting one of these fucking vans.  they were literally everywhere, and they all had $10k-20k mountain bikes on the back.

the used RV market seems to still be strong in UT, i've been thinking about selling my toy-hauler as could get more right now than when i bought it in 2018.

I know, they are seriously everywhere, and most of them have big money upgrades.  My licking my chops to get one on sale if the economy dumps.  As for selling your toy hauler, that's crazy you can still get more than what you bought it for.  I would dump it unless you use it very often and couldn't live without one for a year or so.

Just keep in mind commercial vehicles don't recieve the same level as engineering for rust control if you plan to head to salt country in the winter time. I would get the undercarriage oiled if you plan to drive either in the snow where they salt roads.

In a normal market the price would have dropped. But, and the big but, You money is worth so much less today. So I would have expected the prices to drop like rocks, now I just expect them to drop moderately. Having said that, I also expect there will be people that are selling for "take over payments" in the coming years. One of the big tricks in the RV market is people don't have enough to put as a down payment so the "ask" is much higher. Then they give a big discount that you use as your down payment. But if people got pretty good interest rates which they might have, they might just hang on to them.

Where they build rv,s & campers in Indiana off of the toll rd. There’s a large field with sprinter vans. It doesn’t look like any moved for over 9 months.  I don’t see many new campers being delivered either.  Quite a few pu ,s broke down pulling campers today. In La,ms. Al. Fl. It didn’t look like much fun 103 & real muggy.

Been kicking around making our own camper van for 3-4 years. When first looking could’ve got some vans that would’ve been able to flip for $30k min last 2 years. Last year could’ve picked up a high roof transit extended with 60k miles for $38k. I kick myself for not buying it but my wife was pretty sick at the time. Now seeing more vans dropping in price but still see home conversions listing. For $80-100k. Think it will come down where you can get a decent van for $40k

Keep your eye out on the moto vans fb page.    There are some decent deals on there.    We got ours for 40k.  It's a 2017 pro master 2500 high roof extended with 55k miles.   For the most part it was already built.out.     Separate garage that fits 2 full size bikes and all our riding stuff.    Can sleep in it with the bikes and everything still inside.   Bed, fridge, sink, hot water heater with outdoor shower, toilet, tv, microwave, furnace and roof ac, 60 gallons of water, enough lipo and solar that I can run everything just fine.

It's been great coming from a large toyhauler.   Get 15 mpg and dont have to worry about height or length restrictions anywhere.

I’ve seen RIDONKULOUS prices paid for conversions. It doesn’t make sense; but, hey…if the owners are happy? More power to’em!

I was just reading recent RV stats showing RV sales down 49% overall including trailers down 54%, Class A's down 34%, Class B's down 29% but Class C's up slightly at + 3%. If this trend continues, prices are going to come down some at least on the cookie cutter models. This probably won't apply though to the more expensive, custom RV's especially with an aging population with more and more retirees (and plenty of them with money).

I purchased my '16 Sprinter in June '17 for $39,000, slightly under the MSRP of ~$44,000. Today, I wouldn't be able to find either vehicle in the same condition and mileage for the prices I paid.

As of now, the only thing I want to change is to install a new bed https://van2b.com/product/sprinter-van-murphy-bed/ and cabinets. Also, I did spot repairs and paint it last year to make it pretty again.

I hope you find what you are looking for, no matter what van you end up with!

Well the drop in new sales was to be expected. They were having banner years and could not sustain those sales. I suspect the very cheap old units are being snatched up by what we used to call homeless folks.
