Who's to say RV is out of it this year? Let's say he gets healed up enough to ride in six weeks. Six weeks is going to put him coming back at round 2 or 3 (I'm guessing I didn't look it up) If he were to come in and win every moto (a tall order against the likes of Dungey (who if you remember figured out how to beat him towards the end of RV's last year on the 250) or Alessi or Tedesco or Reed. Where would he be in the points at the end of the outdoors? Approximately of course because you don't know how the first round or two is going to go for points.

That would be wonderful for RV along with all of us fans, but the chances of that happening are pretty slim.

Correct me if I am wrong (and I may very well be) but once they rod the bones isn't it usually a pretty short cure time? I had two screws put in the bottom of my tib/fib to hold the little knuckle where they join back together and I was back on the bike and riding again in three weeks. I was supposed to wait six but was feeling good enough to ride. I have to believe that Ryan is in WAY better shape than me and should heal much faster than me.
Serious question.

It's reality, RV was the favorite with Stewart sitting out.

The series just got a little easier.

I agree... more boring too, IMO. Kinda like '08 all over again... Maybe Dungey can carry his confidence outdoors.
I hope so we need more than one rider who can win

Haven't seen his radiology.

Good break(s), or complicated.

Being able to ride due to stabilizers isn't the same thing as being healthy and ready to ride.

Dungey had one race on the 450, and it happened to be an unbelievable MXoN ride. Anyone who thinks he isn't one of the favorites outdoors is kidding themselves. He'll give RV and anyone else on the gate all they can handle. And he will win races.

it really depends on the severity of the break., i can tell you it wint be three weeks. he MIGHT be lucky to make the last round of nats. but if i were him i would just look forward to 2011.

You and I don't know if a rod was inserted. My best guess, and it is a guess, that Ryan's leg was put back into place well enough to allow him to travel with out doing any more damage.

I believe the repairs will be made by Ryan's personal surgeon.

tib/fib is 3 months minimum.

Jmar is right. Who's racing may not drive it, but certainly affects some of the decision making.

Jmar, what makes you think James is burnt out and needs time off? I hope you're not going off what he says in "Bubba's World".

I haven't watch a single show of Bubba's world. Let's just say that I know a thing or two about child prodigies like James. These kids have lived with pressure all their lives and they really enjoy not having to live with the daily pressures of being #1.

Every time I read another "Dungey in just one race on the 450 - Dungey in only his second, third, etc, race on the big bike - Dungey the class rookie....

Love Dungey and where he is taking the sport, but there is an asterisk that includes 2009 Atlanta, Daytona, etc.

I seem to remember him saying at one time that the seat time was worth more than the rookie status.

Can you be an almost rookie?

Is that the same race where he got smoked by two champions in the first moto and one the second one by default?

Times a changing. All the young guns are coming up. We are in that transition phase right now. RC, Reed, and Bubba dominated for a while and now time for the young guns.

However, I agree Bubba could come out and do real well and contend for a championship but he just rides so hard and so much pressure to win. Kid has had some serious wrecks and injuries as well. He's got a lot of heart-it has shown in the past and we are quick to forget. Hopefully he will come back in a year or two and race both SX and MX but whatever he decides he will be forever stamped a legend in the sport.

So exactly what does that do to discredit my point?

And here I thought this whole time that putting together two good motos is what MX is all about. Too bad Reed and Cairoli couldn't.

Yeah, and how much 450 experience did they have? He just came off 250s.

Some of you guys can rail all you want, but there is no way around the fact that Ryan Dungey is a top level competitor in every sense of the word(s). And he will get faster with every year. For the life of me, I can't figure why some dislike this guy...

And as for as the outdoors...I feel like Dungey is even faster and better at the Natl races outdoors than SX. My observations have been that Ryan tends to ride a bit timid in SX.

Just a thought, and no I am not fishing but it would be a lot less work and less stress to win the championship now.
Doesn't anyone remember 2008, when James Stewart sat out the same amount of time from the Supercross series and came back to the Outdoor series and went 24 / 0. He won every moto and every overall that year.

He's not afraid of anyone that rides a motorcycle. All he needs to do is heal up, so he can ride. If he rides, he will win.

I disagree a little too GuyB. Remember the interview with J-Law where he said if James wasn't going to be there he'd race the 450 but, if James was going to be there he was staying on the 250?

James just might show up for Nationals now that RV is out.
I just don't get this, why on earth do you guys think that someone that won 24 motos in a row is going to show up for a championship because certain competitors are missing? L&M is not James' team to run, if they were racing outdoors i'm pretty sure James would be. Regardless of whether RV is racing or not, i would like to see James out there anyway, even if he was getting his ass kicked, but at the end of the day if he's not committed to the championship by now, i doubt things are going to change. I think it's the most unfortunate thing for the sport and especially the fans that someone with so much potential isn't going to be out there going for it.

Why do I think that? Because everyone makes decisions based on risk vs. reward. You do it. I do it. Racers do it. If Im sitting there thinking of the amount of money, effort, training, expense, and yes life & limb risk involved in running an entire National series, I would consider my competition and what my goal was for that series. If youre completely cool with running mid pack and making a salary, great. Lots of racers make a living doing just that. That isnt a statement of good & bad, it just is. Dont think for one minute James (especially at his level) doesnt consider the entire scope of things before committing with the potential risks and whether the reward is worth the risk.

I have to believe that Ryan is in WAY better shape than me and should heal much faster than me.

I don't think bones care how good a shape you are in. They heal at their own pace. And sometimes they don't. I know a guy whose broken leg is just not healing. He even has the folks at the Steadman clinic in Vail stumped.

Beyond that, I've got to think that repeated injuries eventually get to you mentally. One has shown to be a motivation factor for a lot of athlete. But repeated injuries? I don't know.

From what I understand people do heal at different rates in general, but healthy young people heal faster than fat oldish people. Although there was a note in my file at the ortho commenting on how quickly I heal.

He's not scared but if he's burnt out, he's more likely to make a risk to reward calculation about potential racing plans that includes how the competition stacks up.
