Not to get lost in the other thread, what will it take to get a professional flagging team for SX, MX and MXGP? We seen flaggers affecting the results of races and causing instead of preventing injuries. Same issues across the pond last week so isn’t isolated to US racing. Can the journalist ask what’s going on? Guess we can’t expect too much, NFL can’t pay for full time refs so how can we expect full time flaggers? Although players aren’t paying to provide the entertainment like the racers are. At least Anderson and Craig can find a little humor in the situation, AMA will probably fine him for his comment 😂

Well, of course we KNOW it isn't about money, because the promoters and organizers have a history of sparing no expense when it comes to safety. It must be just a lack of qualified people available to serve as flaggers ......

How ‘bout we get with the times and have radio communications with the riders to alert them about downed riders?!?!

"Although the official figures are not usually revealed publicly, after the last agreement between the league and the NFL Referees Association it was known that in the 2019 season, referees received earnings of $205,000 on average. This equates to around $12,000 per game".

I've heard for years that a certain family wants to keep too much money from the tracks having nationals. I don't know shit. Just repeating what I've been told by more credible people. Does that have anything to do with flaggers and pay? Again, I don't know shit.

At least the MXGPs haven’t had a flagger incident recently…….oh wait…..well shit….

…..our sport has a fixable issue worldwide because they are doing it like it was still the 1970s….

It's money, that's it.

As long as factory teams and their contracted riders keep showing up they aren't going to spend more of it.

This is a business for everyone involved except some of the guys who just want to race bad enough that they do it regardless. They don't make any decisions though. For everyone else, it's just business. Not an insult, just reality.

Please don’t think there’s ANY correlation between what SX does with paying and educating flaggers and what happens at MX nationals.

Ive flagged both.

SX flaggers get paid, close to 2 hours of instruction, and everyone has a radio to hear any on track instructions.

That doesn’t mean they are perfect.

It means they are definitely better than what you saw Thursday.

This must be the 10th thread I’ve seen this week that makes me think nobody understands that this is a dangerous sport.

Mx would need at least triple that many flaggers

Man, we all know it's a dangerous sport and choose to do it anyway. Shit happens and whatever happened happened.

But not being able to put a dude with a yellow flag near a blind section of track, for the highest level event of the year at this track, is just lame and makes it that much more dangerous than it needs to be when racing a professional, top level, sanctioned event.

I don't think any Motorsport has professional marshals does it?

Pretty interesting reading how a track like Silverstone goes about it and the requirements if you want to marshal at f1 or motogp. Different sports but still interesting how much training they have.

It takes the riders, teams, and manufacturers to flat out demand better. Until they refuse to go racing until this is done it will continue. As a fan it’s maddening to watch these things happen over and over again. It’s bad enough to have poor flaggers at our amateur races but completely crazy at the professional level. Whoever the buck stops with should be ashamed of themselves but probably isn’t.

I stand to be corrected but in most cases a hotdog 🌭 with a soda for lunch and a couple of bucks for the day buys a flagger...that's just how I see it. It is exactly that here in South Africa.

The quality of flagging in Pro SX and MX in the USA is absolutely shit. This is a area where they can make some huge improvements for rider safety.

There needs to be a group of experienced flaggers that follow each series. That has not happened because, I'd Hazzard a guess...no one wants to foot that bill.

Eyes on the ball, plenty of able flaggers available at every venue, train them day before, give them headsets and KEEP EYE ON THE BALL!!!!! Not rocket science!!!!

What happened at Press Day is outrageous, no bikes on track without proper Flagger density, PERIOD! Who controls this is the issue!!!!
