Blu cru, how does the new 450 compare to previous gen?

23-24 model you sit on the bike now more than in the bike on the 21.

Bottom end snap is gone on the 23-24, it's another at the initial crack of the throttle but really picks up in the mid. 

New model initiates a turn and holds the turn way easier than previous model

New model is not as stable as previous model. I had headshake on a 24 model where my 21 never shook. 

For me the difference isn't enough to change so I'm keeping my 21 for another year or so. Used bike prices are garbage at the moment so I'm gonna ride it for a bit longer and then get rid of it when it's worth 3-4k

Install the 23.5 Triple Clamps on '23, '24 YZ450....makes bike feel planted like '22, no head shake, turns great.

My buddy mathew caupp is probably atleast 6'4" and he had the previous gen and made the switch to the 23. You can probably find him on pitracer.com or facebook if you wanna pick his brain. Loves it. I think all he did was run his typical bar (a little higher bar) in the forward holes. Im 6' and love the feel of the new gen. It definitely feels slimmer which was what kept me off blue until 23. 

Ive owned a 98, 03, 07, 09, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 450s and I currently own a 23 and 24.

These bikes made a hell of an improvement in 2014 then a big jump in 2018 but still a little porky.

Loved the 20 and 21.

I am 6 ft 3, my son is 6 ft 4.  we run Windham ben Pro Taper bars in the front position on the mounts with the mounts rotated forward and 1 notch forward on the bars.   On the previous bikes (before 23) we use to run the taller seat offered by Yamaha.

The 23 and newer is a game changer for these bikes imo.  We still run the same bars but no longer use the taller seat and feel just fine without it.  I run the Hydraulic clutch setup, my son does not.  I do not normally like hydraulic clutches but the GYTR version I cannot tell the difference between the cable and Hydro so if I cant tell the difference then why not go for consistent operation and maint.  I like to feel the clutch engage is why I normally like the cable but this hydro unit feels pretty good.

I highly recommend this bike and imo, one of the best bikes Ive ever ridden, let alone the best Yamaha 450.  Not sure what the earlier poster state about a low end bog as Ive never encounter any hesitation is power at any postion of the throttle and everybody Ive let try my bike has always stated the power is above anything else they ridden.  Bike has plenty of room for a taller rider and ive never thought it should be more open and do not feel a taller seat is even needed on this bike.  The new bikes want to fall into the corners now and the old YAmaha trait of wanting to stand up mid corner is gone imo.  

Suspension is incredible stock and can be adjusted for all occasions (Im a Vet A rider) I did put a heavier spring on the rear and added 20 cc's of oil to the forks.  Im 230 lbs with gear.

And reliability is second to NONE.

Realibility is second to none? You changed the rod at 20 hours?

6’4 and I felt at home immediately on my 24. All I did was move the bars to the forward holes and it’s been great.
