Is this thing worth it?

Plan to ride the backroads around town 1-2 hour rides most likely for the most part maybe 2x a week. (Maybe more but trying to be realistic)

just want something solid and reliable more than anything else.

I don't think anything at dicks is going to be a solid bike to be honest.  I'd look locally at used gravel bikes that are much more legit and well taken care of.  My Marin cx bike was roughly $2500 brand new and it came stock with carbon fiber frame/fork/seat post, disc brakes, decent Shimano 105 components.  I'd think you could get a really solid used gravel bike for 1-2k.

YZ133…

I was up visiting my son & his family in Aberdeen Md. last summer, and I drove over & participated in the “Bikes & Beers” cycling event one Saturday in Hershey Pa, (great time & Well organized tour!) and I got a raffle ticket deal on one of those for half off!
I went ahead and did it for $400 bucks and frankly it is -adequate- for my son riding around the neighborhood with his girls, but to be honest, it is GAWD-awful heavy, prolly pushing 40 pounds and the Chinese knock-off SRAM shifters left a LOT to be desired! Not to mention it does NOT have a decent rear hub/cassette body with the ability to quickly & easily swap cassettes…
I ended up swapping it over to some 7-speed Shimano Flat bar shifters I had laying around and took off all the reflectors, misc junk adding dead weight, put on a nicer seat I already had & his Shimano M540 pedals etc and its getting ridden for fun around the house with his kids, but I just would NOT consider it the bike you would want to try & do any legitimate hours of training on!

If you’re planning to do any kind of training at all, I would frankly recommend putting that $800 toward something in good shape used! $800 bucks will go a long way toward getting a pretty decent “real” bike on Marketplace etc

We pretty much figured out that Schwinn bike is NOT the quality bike Schwinn was 40-50 years ago and I am glad I didn’t pay more than $400 bucks for it!

Good luck with your decision! 😎 👍❗️

You should have no problem finding a much better used gravel/cyclocross bike in the $800 range.
That Schwinn is NOT worth $800. Those brakes and drivetrain are poor quality and you will regret not having a carbon fork. The vibration of aluminum forks on gravel is the worst.
If you really want to keep the price modest but still want a reliable bicycle, I would suggest a Poseidon.

Specialized diverge is my gravel bike.

Shock absorbing headtube, and seat tube.

Comfortable as hell.

Can even rip up some moderately difficult singletrack.

Those Poseidon’s are reasonably price and should do what I need. That’s perfect thanks.

Is a Gravel bike the equivalent to an Enduro? Not really good on the street, not good in the dirt either…….

Ha! That’s funny & pretty true about the enduro MTB too! (the only one I have had was too heavy and clunky for XC riding, and too flexy & limited travel for DH stuff! Sold it and have dedicated XC & DH bikes)

However, the Gravel bike is actually a solid rig and works well on any surface!
When the wife & I travel these days, I always throw in the gravel bike and two wheel sets, one set up with off road tires, and one with a road tire…This set up serves REALLY well as I can go off road, even modest single track, or put the road set up on and sit in on club rides or T-shirt tours with no issue!

Frankly…my gravel bike gets a TON of action, and my Cervelo S3 ends up collecting dust!
