I was looking at the iPad when it came out. Looks like they are avaiable now. I think I'd like something like this for home. I rarely go on my home pc anymore. If I want to check something on the internet I just use my iphone. I'm thinking an iphone that was 5 times the size would be cool.
Anybody tried one yet? How's the Wi-Fi? Any need to go 3G?

It IS a Giant i-Phone crossed with a Note-Book...
I'm getting one for the convenience of it's size and portability when I'm traveling.
Note: My Apple-Friends say they don't see anything, other than more capacity, comin' in the near future.
Btw, anyone havin' a hard time finding'em "conveniently"...get'em on-line.
You can Pre-Order your 3G, now.
Dave, you gettin' as much memory as is avail, correct (64g)?

My prefered pc at home is my old Win98 Dell Latitude. The HD is full and the sound is crapped out. When the vid card heats up the fans come on full blast and almost lock the machine down so I can only use if for short periods at a time.
We have two newer Vista machines and they are so slow, even with decent RAM and HD specs. I hate using them because they are hard to find my way around.
This iPad will be for travel purposes, entertainment (surfing, videos, music, etc), and also to replace my existing dino. All I ever do at home is the occasional simple excel spread sheet and surf the 'net.
Called Best Buy and the guy laughed at me when I asked if any were available.
It just seems like a big version of the iTouch to me but I guess people love their "gadgets".
but apple fags will still buy them
No, if you're a negative lil' fuckin' Douche that hates anything new or different...well...you won't like the Pad, either.
Yes, you can run/link to externals, to some extent, via the "Dock".
Sure, if you have ANYTHING Apple...you're an idiot...or...so sayeth the lil' bitches that hate everything.
Btw, "Dear Bitches"...
At last count we had 17 computers, 24 Cell phones...too many other "supported devices" to count: And jus' -1- of them is an Apple...my i-Phone. Oh, and...I'm gettin' them for everyone that wants one.
I think they're MORE PORDUCTIVE and come across as a nice Prize for bein' a damn good employee.
Plus, looks like about 10 "pads"...again, more Productive and a well earned "Reward".
Also, I'm gettin' an Mac 27 for my desk...complete w/ X-suite and the new Graphics & Aperture stuff. Hell, contemplating one of their Mac Pro Design Suites...all for a good hunk of change LESS than the COMPARABLE PC crap I'm runnin'...
It helps to have friends in Cupertino.
I hope I've jus' fueled your angry lil' bitch-assed fire.
Rant on...Bitches!
BTW, Best-Buy has them in stock "on-line" for shipped delivery.
I'm jus' laffin' at the Bitchy-Assed Haters...
Proprietary interfaces = I haven't found anything I wanted to do on my iPhone that I couldnt' do yet
Over priced = At around $500 the iPad seems to be at an excellent price point for replacing a laptop that I do nothing on but surf the web (75% of the time anyway).
Same as an iPhone = well, that's the point. I rarely go on my home PCs anymore because I can lay on my couch with my iPhone and surf the web, write email, text, talk on the phone, take pictures, listen to music, whatever I might use a PC for. My only real complaints about the iPhone are, it's not loud enough (phone ear speaker), the screen isn't big enough for real surfing, and the batter doesn't last long. Two of those three appear to be addressed with an iPad. When will they come out with the phone app and vid camera for video conferencing?
