Just curious if anyone had a shop set up the wp forks where the air fork was swapped to the right fork and vice versa. Does it matter which side these forks get placed? I'd assume it does because every ktm/husky I've seen always has the airfork on the caliper side.
???
REP does this. The sell is to meet the binding side with more movement with damper side, and spring on the opposite.
If i had to guess where it came from, i would say it generated from the Showa separate function forks on the Kawi and Suzuki but not entirely my beliefs as the Honda equipped with SFF came air on brake side.
I have swapped cartridges on guys on purpose and the only thing they noticed is that the caps are on opposite sides. Safe to run.
Thanks for the input. I'd figure most riders would not feel any difference either (especially me).
Engineering wise I would like to know, but maybe just a weight and balance decision.
It makes sense to put the air side on the caliper side to even out the weight distribution (heavy caliper offset by lighter air side). It makes no difference otherwise, both sides go up and down at the same time. I don't like the design in general since the forces aren't balanced side to side, which promotes binding, but you can't change that by swapping sides.
Years ago, some forks came with rebound only one side and compression on the other.
They are held by the axle and move together... in unison, like a happy couple.
